Does anyone make a panel to mount a Proto flush into a wall, or has anyone made their own?

An AC adaptor could be used to power it and the back light switch could be connected to perminately light.

When mounted next to the light switch, the "wall tough panel" could control whole house audio, lighting (via X-10) and even the Aircon.

Has anyone tried this themselves?

And how, with it flush-mounted, are the poor little IRs going to reach the equipment? They'd just wander around inside the walls, lost. After a time many of them would likely become feral.

Isn't that how gremlins are born? (Forget the movie. It wasn't entirely accurate.)

You would put a IR link eye infront of it.

Anyway, Gremlins can be cute!

You would simply pull the Pronto apart, put the screen onto the wall flush, with a nice little frame around it, then take the IR transmitter, which is now no longer constrained in the case and stick it out the wall, just above the touch screen, maybe thru the screen frame. All the guts would be inside the wall, just the screen and IR eye would be visible from outside the wall.

Just kidding. It probably could be done, by adding a longer cable to the screen connector, then longer wires to the IR transmitter, but at $270-$350 for the remote, I just could not bring myself to do this to my toy.

Well, At that price it would be an Excellent price compared to similar wall mounted touch panels.

I would put it about 57 inches. Switch height is too low for such devices.

You would want to leave the back light alone... Just have it come on when the screen is touched. Otherwise you would run the light till it died an early death. I would still like the hard vol / ch /mut buttons.

Now get to work on it!

Now if there were just some kind of a remote control that you could use with it...

Am i missing something here?
I thought the Pronto was a remote control i can put on my lap while controlling my home system devices, so i can remain sitting on my but in my leather chair beside the fireplace?
I don't think i'm going to build mine in the wall, since i'd have to come out of my chair and walk 10 metres to push a button that changes channels on my TV, while the TV is only 3 metres away from my little cosy leather chair!
Sound like a bad idea...

The original intent of the post was to make the pronto into a home automation center where it is mounted into/onto the wall. You would use the touch pad to control inside/outside lights, security, home climate, etc. and the Pronto appears to be an inexpensive alternative to the systems out there already. People just want ideas on how to "bury" the remote into the wall.

You would also have to have access to the data port to reprogram it. I guess you could "pop" the screen off to get access to the O/S in the wall, you would need a longer cable maybe, unless you could put a laptop very close to the remote.

I think this would look rather cool if someone were to do it and post pictures!

Mounting in a wall? I don't want that, I want a Pronto embedded in my hand!

We have experimented with just this thing and have a little success, we intergrated into the PHAST landmark system and with the Elan systems, change your batteries to be wired on DC transformer and place your eye system in the wall above the output of the Pronto
as for mounting the device serval solutions to making a box cutout in the wall using industrial velcruv and framing it ect.....

Jay & Cary have got the idea.

I was thinking of using one as a low cost alternative to expensive wall mounted touch panels and the associated hardware.

I wouldn't want to modify the pronto if possible. Just have the whole pronto sloted into the back of some sort of panel. The panel could be fitted into the wall with four screws. To reprogram the pronto, you would just unscrew the panel and take the pronto to your PC.

Anyone else got any input?

Can you install a pronto in your car, to shift gears or maybe steer for you?

Hmm, just don't go using mouse mode to steer... I hear it's a little inaccurate. ;-)
