doing a little more research for my brother's birthday, he wanted a pronto. I ended up buying it from etronixs- there customer service was outstanding and I received it within 2 days. There are alot of internet companies selling this that I talked to and they could learn alot from etronixs.
Here are the prices they quoted me:

green pronto $299 shipped
silver pronto $329 shipped
dock station was $59.95 shipped.

I am sure there are other great deals out there, just do the research

I second this recommendation. After reading this forum for about 3 months, I ordered my green Pronto and (silver - does it come in green?) docking station from Etronixs last Thursday and it arrived on Monday. Straight up pricing - no shipping or handling charges. Looks virgin - not used and repackaged, and best I can tell U.S. legal. Looking forward to programing it. I have had ProntoEdit on my laptop for a month and have downloaded about 4 ccf's that have components I have. I'll merge them just to get started and most likely create two ccf's - one wife-friendly and one more manual and detailed for the hi-fi geek in me.

Dan, this site is tremendous as is the cult that is the Pronto fans. Everyone keep up the good work and play!

I will third that motion. I purchased my Philips pronto from etronixs.com also. They had a very friendly customer service and shipped the pronto with great care. I ordered it and received it within 3 day's! They did not charge anything for shipping. Plus they told me if I was not happy with the pronto or got tired of it, I could trade it in for the RTI trade in promo they have. I highly suggest etronixs.com

Thanks for the tip.
I read your suggestion of Etronix earlier today... needed a docking station... called them at 2:30 eastern and purchased the docking station for $59.95. I received a UPS tracking number at 6:00 pm with a scheduled delivery time of Monday 28 Aug. 2000.

Thanks for the tip

One of the workeres where I ordered my Pronto told me what he did was go to Walmart and get one of those Battery chargers and a set of 4 rechargeable AA's and use them , usually for less than the docking station. You might get 2 sets of AA's to have one set ready to go and just exchange them when needed.

Bill, this is correct. But you do not need 2 sets since the charging time is 30 minutes to 90% capacity or overnight to a full charge.

make sure you are getting the NI-MH type batteries and not NI-CD !!!

I just got my silver pronto from IEC advertised on Ebay. It came factory fresh and packed very well. For $279.50 shipped, you just can't beat the price and the service is excellent. I also bought the docking station from etronixs for 59.99 shipped. Excellent service as well, but their pronto price was $329 for the silver pronto so I went with IEC. I highly recommend IEC. Thanks Pinny.

When shopping, don't forget that etronixs.com offers a $10 discount to Remote Central users. That could help close any price gap.
