My serial ports work fine. I have tried the Pronto on different available COM ports (2 and 4, neither of which are used by other programs -- I have also tried changing the IRQ addresses, thinking that Prontoedit may look for a specific IRQ, and no, there are no IRQ conflicts HELP), but I get the "Pronto not connected or not responding" whenever I try any comm operations with Prontoedit. The error dialog states "No Details", so I get I get no choice as to which Com port that app uses. (Thanks!)

Mark,

Forgive me if you already know this, you do have the Pronto "awake" and set to the first home page?

Indeed, it is awake and on the home page when I try to initiate the connection.

Ensure the serial ports are not configured for IRDA. Also make sure you're connecting the Pronto to the FIRST unused port (some people have had problems connecting on Com2 if Com1 was not already in use).

IRDA is disabled, and COM2 is the first unused serial port, with which all my other COM programs can communicate, but ProtoEdit cannot.

What's Com1 doing, mouse? Try seeing if you can get anything from Hyperterminal (connect your remote to the computer, connect Hyperterminal to Com2 then press the reset button on the remote).

I have the same problem. com2 Works fine but seems like a unit problem. I Tried on another machine where com1 is being used by the mouse and com2 by the Pronto and get the same result.

Original computer also an IBM Thinkpad 600. Pronto Connected to Com2. Firmware and software updated to latest release..bla...bla

This is my SECOND unit. First one worked fine on Uploads/downloads on same computer setup but had to be returned due to backlight malfunction

I'm having this exact same problem at home. Its like ProntoEdit doesn't know how to look for the COM ports correctly. I brought my Pronto to work with me to try it on my work PC and it worked great so i know its not the unit that's malfunctioning. I sent Philips tech support and email with the details and they suggested I try unloading my digital camera software from the PC. I'm betting that this will make no difference. BTW, I'm using Win NT4.0 SP6. COM1 is the Mouse, COM2 is the modem, COM3 is where I'm trying to connect. I wish ProntoEdit had a way to force the use of a specific port. Is there some way to do that in the registry?

If you are using a Windows CE device, go to active sync, right mouse click, go to "connection settings",and make sure the "Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port" box is not checked. This was my problem.

I didn't think pronto edit would work with Win2000. Does it?

Mostly, yes.
