In the setup there is LCD and LCD Light. The time in LCD light is the amount of time the light will be on if the BACKLIGHT button is pushed. If the light comes on automatically when the screen is pressed then the time in the LCD field takes effect. So if you have 4sec for LCD Light and 240sec for LCD and you have the backlight to turn on automatically then the light will be on for 4 minutes. I think this was probably made that way so that you don't think the machine is dormant because the backlight went off.

Paul,

Aren't Lithium batteries rechargeable?

Anthony,

My Pronto does'nt work as you say. What the LCD is set to, that's how long the backlight stays on, no matter what the LCD light is set on.

I have lowered my LCD setting to 20 seconds to see if battery life would be extended, but after a few (3 or 4) days, the battery bar is halfway down.

I am going to rename my Pronto Vampire.

And one other thing, my Pronto reboots every couple of days, sometimes with brand new batteries (still showing full stength). Battery strength does'nt seem to have anything to do with the problem.

To quote myself: "If the light comes on automatically when the screen is pressed then the time in the LCD field takes effect."

Tom: Only certain types. And so far, nothing you can just buy to stick in equipment.

Daniel,
I got the docking station with my pronto. It was backordered about two months, so I used the cheapies that came with the unit. They lasted about three months and then I went to the docking station. Now I'm getting the same message about a low battery. When I place it on the dock, the light turns green and shortly goes out. I still get the low bat message. I have tried taking them out of the unit for a time and the message goes away, but comes back in a day or so. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Bill

I've been using NexCell NIMH batteries from Thompson Distributing. They usually last me 3-4 months or so. I usually never get a low battery warning. The pronto goes from working fine to completely dead until I put new batteries in. Scared me the first time it did this. I did notice that the battery chargers battery indicator indicated they were still ok, though. However, when I metered the batteries individually, mostly 1 out of the 4 would be really low. I would then replace the 1 really low one with a battery closer to the charge of the other 3 and the pronto works fine. One thing I have started doing is to charge only batteries indicating similar charge levels, simultaneously. Apparently, at least with my Radio Shack charger, it only seems to meter off of the first battery in the charger, rather than each individual slot so it will only condition and charge based on the charge in the 1st slot.

Bill -- sounds like your Pronto isn't reading battery levels correctly.

Nope, the Lithium batts. aren't rechargable.
Reading this thread, I'm wondering if it's not your batteries, but something weird with the new OS upgrade
Question: did you U/G to the new OS?
I've been noticing weird things with the batt. indicator since I upgraded. It'll show 3 bars down, then I'll go back into it and it'll show full and continue this for a couple of days before showing full continuously. Resetting does the same thing after a few days.
It's not that I'm being anal about the battery.

A couple of days ago the I was hitting 'Vol Up' and the thing reset itself. I got the same 'not enough juice to bring up the menu' (paraphrased), message. Put the thing down for a while, then came back to check it and it had a full charge.

Sorry for the ramble, but I'm more confused now then when I was sniffing glue .

I wonder if the upgrade really wasn't.

Anyone talk to Marantz re. this?

No doubt the battery inducation needs some help, but I
wonder if the problem is not merely one of unit to unit variations in the Pronto.
Lithum batteries=use till down--no recharge.
Lithium ion batteries are the best and are easily rechargeable, but hard to find!
