I recently bought a Philips Pronto, and had successfully
uploaded and downloaded to it with no problems, but the next day I went to do the same thing and error message was telling me the pronto wasnt responing I tried a combination of things, and to check that my comm port was still working a plugged in a digital camera that I have that uses the same port, to check communication and it worked fine so I am now stuck and frustrated,if anyone has come across this and knows the fix I would appreciate any help.

Be sure that no software is locking out your comm port, such as hotsynch for a palm or Win CE handheld or software for your digital camera that is always running.

Also check that you leave the Pronto on the home panel with the screen active. Though that's usually for "invalid information" responses.

You need to update the firmware on your remote. ProntoEdit -> Tools -> Update Pronto.

Thanks to all for sugestions, have tried but still with no luck, update doesnt work as it cant connect to do the update, have tried doing it from the home menu but still with no luck ,have also done a reset.the error I am getting doesnt say that that port is being used by another application just that it is getting no responce from the pronto???
It wouldn't be so bad if it had never worked but the fact that it was running fine one day and not the next is whats bugging me.
So if anyone has any more ideas feel free to air them.
Thanks

Sounds like its worth a try, is it easy for you to explain to me what the process I need to do to test it is?
Thanks for any help in advance.

It might be worth checking the port in the BIOS, although that wouldn't explain why it worked the first day. My coms 2 port was set up for IR and I had the same problem until I changed it to auto. If you have 2 ports, try the other.

Try playing with the cable. Most of the communication problems I've had is with the cable. When you insert it in the remote pull it out just a hair and try your download. This has worked for me.

If you are using a Windows CE device, go to active sync, right mouse click, go to "connection settings",and make sure the "Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port" box is not checked. This was my problem.
