I've been looking for information about exactly how many Pronto's have sold out there. Has anyone seen these numbers? Anyone hazard to guess?

I'm also curious as to the market share between remote controls. How large of a share is made up of these after market universal remotes? What companies are the market leaders (I believe RCA is)?

That seems to be a somewhat guarded number. I have some ideas, but I can't really say.

I would assume over a million by now world-wide?

Hmm, I'd say that's doubtful. It's a pretty high-end product. Most people choke at spending $30 on a remote.

The number is probably in inverse proportion to the number of Creston systems installed!

Cary - LOL - Weeks here I think if you add it all up ;)

STZ - Surely the One-4-All are the biggest selling after-market remotes? Quite the opposite end of the market to the Pronto... I'd say its certain in the UK..

Steve - How long though? /That/ is the question ;)

1 Pronto here

Daniel - Can (or would?) you tell us how many discreet users post to the site? That would give us /some/ ideas!

Actually I had a thought, I hope Mike doesn't mind me mentioning this but its info available if you check his website regularly ;) (www.letsautomate.com)

He seems to shift batches of 200-250 fairly quickly... maybe every month or two? So say roughly 100/month from one fairly popular online seller.. Anyone care to guess how many 'popular' online sellers stocking Pronto's there are? ;)

I'm interested as to when the Pronto was introduced?
Also, has Phillips /ever/ publicised the Pronto?

Laurie, Paul Chambers invented the Pronto when he worked at Philips, then IDE designed and engineered its manufacturing in 1998, according to the first two documents - so it's probably been on the market for two years or less. Remarkable.

But Philips wants to stifle Internet sales of the Pronto so that store chains like Best Buy can sell more of them (don't ask me how that makes sense!). So the potential 1000's of sale per month you illude to may drop to 2 or 3 units per year.

I went to my local Best Buy yesterday and asked the teen in charge of the Home Theater department what's the most powerful universal remote they have, and he said the big One-For-All - it's even got an LCD display!

So, I asked him what about those remotes I've heard of with the LCD touchscreens and he said they're great! The one they have is a Sony, and it can even control your lights!

I was impressed.
