Laurie, Paul Chambers invented the Pronto when he worked at Philips, then IDE designed and engineered its manufacturing in 1998, according to the
first two documents - so it's probably been on the market for two years or less. Remarkable.
But Philips wants to stifle Internet sales of the Pronto so that store chains like Best Buy can sell more of them (don't ask
me how that makes sense!). So the potential 1000's of sale per month you illude to may drop to 2 or 3 units per year.
I went to my local Best Buy yesterday and asked the teen in charge of the Home Theater department what's the most powerful universal remote they have, and he said the big One-For-All - it's even got an LCD display!
So, I asked him what about those remotes I've heard of with the LCD touchscreens and he said they're great! The one they have is a Sony, and it can even control your lights!
I was impressed.
