Actually, this unit is not that bad at all.
As for codes, I'm pretty sure that the codes for the higher end equipment will work with your unit (as long as the funcationality is present). I upgraded my Yamaha receiver last year and the codes for the lower model worked with the upgrade, so it must be true the other way around.
Try searching around the site for Yamaha ccf's and try a few. You may be pleasantly surprised with what you find.

Merrill and Peebles - I have a Yamaha HTR-5150 and it is an excellent receiver. Full function, DTS and Dolby 5.1, all auto sensing and in the typical Yamaha fashion, 5 separate power amps inside, which really gives a kick. It was about $499, if I recall.
Do you recall which Yamaha model numbers represent the "higher end" models? I am setting up my first Pronto ccf and would like to try some. Was trying to save some time and energy by using a ccf that may have already been developed, that I could borrow. Regards...Dave Feel free to email me direct.
