This message is from last June. :-) Yes, the sub/balance codes in the first post are for preamplifiers only. Tried the same function number for receivers, seems they don't work either. However, the fact that preamplifiers SHOULD have them leads me to think receivers MAY have them -- somewhere.

THE SONY CODES FOR VCR INPUTS, L1, L2, L3,ETC. WORK
FOR SOME MODELS AND NOT OTHERS.YOU MAY HAVE A MODEL
THAT RESPONDS TO "TUNER" AND "L2" BUT NOT "L1".
IT'S AT HIT AND MISS THING. ALL ANYONE CAN DO IS TRY
EACH VCR. THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT.

Well, now *I* feel silly as all hell, cause I never noticed until Daniel pointed it out that this thread was older than the hills. On the other hand, I work an IT department help desk and can therefore be forgiven for never knowing *where* I am, let alone when ;)
