Hi. I'm new to the high-end remotes and was wondering how different are the Pronto and RC5000. I've heard that Marantz is owned by Philips, so are these two remotes very different.
It seems that everyone has the RC5000 in stock where nobody (except Etronixs.com) has the Pronto. If I buy an RC5000, will I be foregoing very much?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

Please search the forum for versus. or Marantz. There has been alot of discussion over this. I believe that the FAQ also covers some of this as well. If you read the FAQ and search the forum, you will find more than enough info to keep you busy.
Good luck, I personally believe that you will be happy with either purchase.

They are basically the same remote and utilize the NEARLY the same PC software for building CCFs outside the domain of the remote itself.
There are a couple of VERY minor differences. According to Sinbad over at HomeTheaterTalk.com, the RC-5000 won't support timers or custom beeps. I seem to recall there is one other software (PC) difference, but I can't remember it right now.
The RC5000 color looks blue in adds. In reality, they are both green. Gold color of remote is capable of showing more scrapes than the traditional gray I think.
I own both, and like both. Remember, the RC-5000 comes with the charger base, but the lower priced Pronto doesnt, though it is available.
Can't go wrong either way-
Lex

Thanks for the inputs... I decided to get the RC5000. It seems like a slightly better deal than what's presently available for the Pronto (since I do want the docking station as well). Matt

Matt; The RC5000 also has the 3 year warranty as opposed to the 1 year for the Pronto. Just something else to consider when you go through the "morning after" buyers remorse thing. I've had mine for several months with no problems at all either with my own custom ccf files or hardware issues. Not one single reboot.
