This typically has to be done in DOS, and may have to be done in "real mode DOS" (without Windows running). Basically, follow the directions in the readme file and write down the locations of where you find mfc42.dll. Unlike the readme file, do NOT rename the one in c:\windows\system.

I looked in my system, and I have a few instances of mfc42.dll. The important one, in c:\windows\system, is 995,383 bytes, as are two others I located. The fourth is obviously an older version with 941,840 bytes and dated from 1997. It's used by the "PCFriendly" software that comes on DVD-ROM enabled DVD movies.
