I am very new at programing this fabulous remote, so i have some questions. I have downloaded a couple of programs that other pople have written and I wanted to use parts of there programs but I cant seem to do it. There are a couple of buttons that i wanted to use but I cant seem to import them to my RC5000 program. Can some one help me with this.

Unfortunately, there's no direct way to import parts of one CCF into another, but there's a work-around.
  1. In ProntoEdit, open the CCF that contains the parts you want to import.
  2. Delete everything from that CCF that you don't want.
  3. Open your CCF, and choose Merge when prompted.
  4. Save the CCF to a new filename with the Save Configuration As... option on the File menu.

Thanks Tom, I've been messing with this for a couple of days and it was starting to frustrate me. Maybe one of these days i can return the favor.

Bryan,

You're very welcome. Everyone here helps each other.

The procedure I provided in my message, above, was what I recalled from the ProntoEdit manual
(I checked, it's on page 30, "How can I copy a device from one CCF to another?").

But, I was just reviewing the Unofficial Philips TS1000 Pronto / Marantz RC5000 Intelligent
Remote Control FAQ
here on RemoteCentral.com, [Link: remotecentral.com]. In it, Daniel Tonk makes a good point.

In article B4-04, How can I merge CCF Files?, [Link: remotecentral.com],
Daniel says to merge the CCF containing the desired import components into your CCF, rather than the other way around like my message (and
the manual state). As stated in the FAQ, "The reason for opening your own file and then the
one you saved is that the currently opened file is the one that maintains all remote settings.
If you merge your file into someone elses you will instead receive their settings."

No irreparable damage will occur - you'll just have to redo your remote's settings, like light
and LCD time-outs, etc. So sorry about that!

Thanks again, My problem is I only want very few icons from the program ccf file that i downloaded. So when i do like you told me to it doesn't put the icon where i want it. Some one told me that i could store them as bit maps in a paint program. I dont know how to do that nor do i have a paint program. Does anyone out there have a program that they could send me. I also need instructions on how to save icons as bit maps.

Bryan,

Try this ....
1) Exclusively load the CCF that has the Icons you are interested in.
2) Double-click on the button with the icon you are interested in.
3) Under the tab "Inactive/Active Icons" choose "Save".

That will allow you to interactively save the icon bitmap you are interested in (and nothing else) - you can now load your CCF and use the saved bitmaps for your own buttons.

Remember that you can also cut and paste a device/panel/button between files. Not between ProntoEdit sessions, but between one file and another in the same session.

Daniel, of course! I knew that. ;) Think something like this should go in your FAQ?
How do I copy a device, panel, button, or frame from one CCF to another?
  1. In ProntoEdit, open the CCF that contains the part you want to copy.
  2. Highlight (click once on) the part. If it's a device or panel, highlight it in the Configuration View (left window). If it's a button or frame, highlight it in the Panel View (right window).
  3. Press Ctrl-C to copy the part to the clipboard.
  4. Open your CCF, and choose Replace when prompted.
  5. Click once where you want to place the part.
  6. Press Ctrl-V to paste it from the clipboard.
  7. If it doesn't end up exactly where you want it, you can drag it there.

Bryan,

Windows comes with its own paint program. It should be at Start | Programs | Accessories | Paint.

But, unless you want to create your own graphics, or modify existing ones, there's really no need to involve yet another program and learn how to use it.

You can use the copy/paste mentioned above to copy the button that contains the icon want to your CCF. Then hold the Alt key down while dragging the icon to your existing button. Only the graphics will be copied. All your original settings on the button will remain.
