Ok.. I done a zilion remotes in my custom install business, but now.. FINALLY I'm deallin' with the Pronto.. What with the worldwide shortage of touch panels and hem and haw etc...
I love this thing, BUT I have tried for several seconds before turning to you... I want to have buttons on the home panel that say "home thater"... "whole house audio" etc.. and either access a device control panel... OR a string of macros.. then another menu or even a control panel again... or somting usfull... I have four of these now that I need to program yesterday.. (good luck to me) and have a good feel for them except for this one simple task..
I swear I will share the knowledge when I master them.. and I will..
I may have changed the home menue name..
might be misusing aliasis incorectly...
help me! before i find a park bench and crawl under it for a week or so.
PS... Anybody in Chicago need custom systems from audio / video / data / structured wiring etc.. home and business.. let me know... (my shameless plug)

Thanks I advance? shold I list my web page for my business? hmmm

Can you be a little more specific?

Regarding aliases, most people create "Hidded" devices or pages that have all there original remote functions. And all the user visable level panels alias to them.

The idea is to have ONE learned IR code for any original remote and refer back to the orginal from multiple places. This way you minimize memory usage and makes it easy if you need to "tweak" the IR or replace your DVD player etc. You just relearn that one hiddne page and your done (assuming it has similar features). It also makes it easy when experimenting with multiple styles and you can feel free to delete a page makes is all aliases and not have to worry about relearning IR codes.

Thanks george!
I did finaly figureit out... I nike the idea of hidden pages for all remote functions, but how do you create a totally hidden device. I.E. one that wont't show up on the device bar in the upper right?.. I was up till midnight tweakin' out my first remote, and now it's REALLY cool.. the customer already has it and is thrilled.. So many more to do though.. can't wait to learn new tricks... I Did find how you can play tetris on the remote.. WOW.. nothing it won't do.. if your want it to. thanks again!

You can't hide devices, but what you can do is add a device you want to hide behind a device you dont want to hide. i.e. create a hiden pannel called TV(if you want to hide the TV codes) on a device called DVD (where DVD is a device you don't want to hide)

Hidden pages are really "scroll-through" pages -- not hidden. If you have a device made up entirely of hidden pages, you will STILL be able to access the first page for that device. That's why Anthony's suggestion is the best -- put hidden pages behind real pages. There is still one caveat though, whenever you return to a device you've accessed a hidden panel on you will return to that hidden panel.

If you hide all the panels on a device, then the device will still show up in the 'device' list, and the user can select it. However...

If you set up the properties for the panel, and put in a jump for the 'action' tab, then you can jump out to a pre-specified place (eg home or special 'you shouldn't be here' panel). so you can make sure people won't get stuck in a strange place.

I like that idea Richard... I'm sure others will too.

Hey evrybody.. I've suggested a forum for whole house audio systems.. please back me up on this and send in a request. It would be of value to many many installers, as well as anybody trying to make an informed decision on what type of system to invest in. There are tons of systems from simple to complex, and they are esentially spread out remote controls anyhow so come on! What do you think? Lets get the ball rolling.. It would also be a great place to discuss it related components such as in-wall speakers, outdoor speakers, amps, IR systems, room to room video. etc etc... come on.. can't you see the value? As a guy with a little ole' custom install comany in Chicago, I think it would be great, but I also think it would have broad appeal.

Thanks Cary, but I'm talking about a no bones dedicated forum.. I and many others deal with dozens of whole home systems and seaching for a coulpe stray coments is fine, but there is really a need for much much more..

Maybe Daniel, just guessing, could create an HT Installer forum, for all the different HT installers? This would allow me (just an HT dabbler) lurk around and see some of the tricks you guys utilize to get around architectural and acoustical challenges! ;-)

I think that somthing along the lines of...
Custom A/V installer forum... or
Systems Integrator forum...
Whole House Sytems forum...
... there are many ways It could go, but I think any of the top three would have merit, and attract users in a viriety of diferent markets. the Question is Which One? I do like the top two a little better because they would be able to cover other pro systems that can operate outside the home... such as in commercial applications without looking out of place..
What do you think?
