I just received my new remote as a gift and have been trying to customize it but with very little success. I now have done somthing, I do'nt quite know what, but I'm getting nothing but a Invalid Software version message on my remotes screen and it wants me to download the correct sotware, and sence I do'nt know what I did wrong I can't really fix it. Please help, any advice would be helpful.

Sounds like you tried to "update" your remote using ProntoEdit. You can't do that! Download RC5000 Setup v1.02.3 from the file area and run "Update RC5000" from the TOOLS menu.

The message that I receive after my computer trys to connect to my remote is that it does not contain a valid configuration. I do'nt know if that is helpful information.

try just updating your remote with an older version of the software. One of my customers remotes wouldn't take the new software so i updated it with the 1st or second version software and it worked. i forgot something when i did an update on his remote, " If it ain't broke, then don't touch it".

I think the "does not contain valid information" only comes up when you try to download a CCF. You should be trying to upload firmware -- however if that's what you're doing, make sure the remote's screen is active before downloading. You should be able to find the old version at [Link: marantzamerica.com].

Thank you guys for the help I finally got it up and running again but now I have another question. I downloaded some of the complete ccf configurations on to a disk and now I need to know how to get software to unzip them and then how to get them into RC-5000 setup so I can upload them into my remote.

Many Thanks Guys
Chris

First do a web search for "win.zip" you should be able to download and install a trial version. Then Copy the zipped ccf file to a temp directory on your hard drive. Then unzip the file using winzip to your rc5000 setup directory. I made a new folder in my directory called "downloaded_ccf" and that is where I put the ones I have downlaoded from this site. Then in the rc5000 edit program you select load new config and select the one in your new directory.

Thank you racer888, I appreciate the helpful advice. I'll. let you know if I have any other problems. One quick question though, is there a rc5000 edit program or do I need to use pronto edit?

Thanks
Chris

If you own an RC5000, use RC5000 Setup version 1.02.3. Also, if you're running Windows 98 it has built-in support for ZIP files (just double-click on them).
