Well I just thought I'd let you all know that the Pronto is a very strong little beast

All 17+ stone of me stepped on it tonight and it survived. At first it looked like the LCD display was broken as loads of pixels were missing, but after 10 mins they all drifted back into place.

Hurrah.

I must be more careful next time :)

Cheers.

I have had to take the battery out for a while today, as it wouldn't recharge properly, but again, it's okay now.

Wow! It is wild hearing how the quality of the remotes vary so greatly. One person presses a little too hard on the screen, and it cracks, then you hear about these stories like "it flew across the room and survived", or "I stepped on it". A pretty big variance in the quality specs, me thinks.

Glad to know your remote survived, Scott, bet your heart skipped a beat!

When looking for the remote that would perfectly tie my HT together, the biggest thing pushing me away from the pronto was the thought of paying 300+ for a remote that I would have to treat like a crystal vase, when half the time i would find myself sitting on one of the many remotes I had at the time. On more than one occasion, when looking all over the house for my "universal" wal-mart remote, I had found it exacly where i had left it the night before---in the refrigerator. And each time after spending hours with the chocolate milk and Broccoli that 12 dollar remote worked just fine. But while searching Remote central i found numerous post "cracked screen...Pressed it too hard" or "it just died". Well I just got sick of using and loosing all those remotes over and over again. I spent the 300+.

I've had my pronto for nearly 6 months now, and it is my favorite compnent in the whole setup. It has since been dropped off the end table 3 times, off the back(high side) of the sofa once, and stolen by my 2 year old son for at least 5 minutes(ooooh nooo)on at least one occasion, and it works and looks just as good as the day i bought it.

Don't live in fear under a pile of plastic wands. Buy the pronto.

I hope that's 17+ stone of muscle Scott! I would hate to think your Pronto was keeping you in front of your HT instead of letting you get out and about! ;->

I'm afraid it's bulk, but I've just started working on getting it down,if only for the Pronto's sake.

Anyone for a game of badminton:)

Bad-mint-on?

Anything to do with strong flavoured candy?

Or shall we use Prontos as raquets and REALLY test the suckers? :-0

Prontos and most other LCD devices have their weak points. Just like a piece of tempered glass, they can be super strong under some stresses, but crack as easily as tempered glass shatters if tapped the wrong way on the wrong day.

My pronto survives because it lives only a few inches above a carpeted and well padded floor. That and the fact that I never let it get anywhere near a place where it might fall or get knocked off accidently.

And Oh yea... I hot glued it to the coffee table top. ;-)
