Forum Refresher Course Historic Forum Post |

If you search the forum first, you might find more than enough answers to some of the common questions. Things to search for before starting a new post:
- Shattered or broken screens (search forum)
- What are discrete codes (search forum, look under files)
- Where to buy online, who has Prontos in stock (search forum)
- Where is documentation (look under files)
- What is the reboot problem (search forum)
- Who has codes to device XXXXX (look under files)
Betcha you can find the answers to your questions in the time it takes you to post it.... I know being a newbie to the whole Pronto/Marantz thing is very intimidating, but please be courteous to the rest of us too. We can only answer the same question a few times before getting just a little frustrated. Also, if you search the forum, you will find that some people leave their email addresses, and you can email a person directly on their proposed solutions or suggestions to various posts. Just some hints to making your lives easier learning this awesome remote, as well as some of us old-timers. Thanks in advance.

My suggestion "old timer" would be don't answer any questions that might frustrate you! Hey does anyone have discrete codes for my XXXXX, I recently upgraded from my older XXXX and it's really frustrating me!!!

I have to agree with you on this one. Some people,eh? By the way, does anyone know how to run a search for dorks on this site? Wait! I think I've found one right here! Read what you like and skip the rest, dork.

I guess common sense is too much to ask, like doing a little research before asking a question. I know reading is a hard thing for some, but practice makes perfect.
I guess you don't see the point that if people search for a question/answer, they save themselves time. Duh. Why post a common question, keep checking in anxiously awaiting the solution or different opinions, when in half the time you could have found the answers already. You don't waste my time, I just don't answer the common questions, it is all your time. Sorry if such suggestions hit a nerve, they really shouldn't.
You get the best answers to the questions when they are first asked, then each repeated question will get fewer and less concise answers, because nobody wants to type "a discrete code is..." or "you can try ???.com for the best price..." or "the sensor has been removed..." over and over again, especially in a span of one day, when all the other posts are right there in from of that person. Scrolling down is such hard work.

Why don't you all put your money where your mouth is. Have a little back bone and sign your name to your posts.

FRC If scrolling down is such hard work and you are so concerned about wasting your time why are you wasting your time with this BS? If you don't want to read or answer a question skip it!!!

FRC, All the answers are here already so there should be no more questions asked then you wont have to read anymore redundent posts. Mike, Because we all are regulars here that don't mind answering a question more than once and when we do, we post with our names and email address.

To whoever started this ridiculous thread - you've wasted MY time by pissing me off to the point of needing to respond to your asinine post. Who made you feel important enough to think that it was your responsibility to respond to the redundant questions? Take a hint - go start a private chat room and give all your 'old-timer' buddies the password so that you can sit around and have pertinent discussions all day. Leave this forum to those with open-minds about helping everyone get the most out of their purchases.

Aren't there good points in the post? Maybe FRC just wanted to get people a little more aware of how they can better help themselves using the resources on this site. If you search first, then ask later, then this should not make you mad, it does not seem to be directed at you. But if you simply want to sit and ask and not look around, by all means do that. However, the entire internet is based on curiosity, investigation, searching, more searching, why should BBS and forums be any different? Chances are the solutions are here already. You found this site probably by searching. Did you post messages to all the forums and BBSs asking where you could find the answers to all your Pronto questions?
With 31,000+ threads, there cannot be that many new issues. Well, better get back to work thinking of new questions...

Ouch, When I first came to this forum I asked the normal redundant newbie questions and received some very helpful answers and I was also directed to the FAQ. Since I was new I wasn't even sure how to search the forum for the most complete answer to my questions. I enjoy answering a newbies simple questions even if they have been answered previously. Let's don't intimidate anyone from asking a question when all they want is a little help.

Yeech, afraid to get in the middle of this one, but maybe this is something that could be added to that one thread from Daniel about what we would like to see on this site. Something like a new user page, with highly-visible links for searching and various files, etc.? I think I had suggested a "most common thread" page that does the searches for the most common questions each night, and you just have to go to a page that lists these. That could be useful, I guess.
Also, I just responded to a thread about a new user guide for the Pronto/ProntoEdit, about my making one for everyone for about $10-15? I really do think that the Philips manuals are very poor, but may have been more designed for HT shops than the novice user. In any case, a resource you can hold in your hand and flip through is probably one of the most valuable and comfortable one for new users to have.

I was the newbie that asked the question about buying online. Yes, I now know how the search function works. Yes, FRC could've and should've used more tact in his reply. I'm sorry I've wasted everybodies time on this topic. I believe XXX-1 has the right attitude about newbies, thanks. Courtesy and helpfulness go a long way, even in the faceless world of the internet.
