Hi,

I am about to buy a new Remote-Control.
I have a nice complete system which includes:
Sony STR-930QS Amplifier
Sony S7700 DVD
Sony MDS-930QS Mini-Disk Deck
Toshiba Television (Meanwhile a simple one...)

Also I have another Pioneer Amplifier (VSA-E3) which I use in another room in the house, with a Philips TV and a Pioneer DVD.

I am trying to decide on a good Remote-Control unit that will be the best for me.
Money is not the issue - only the performance.

I am conflicting between these units:

Sony RM-AV2100
Harman/Kardon Take-Control 1000
Marantz/Philips Pronto RC5000

I am intereseted in hearing what you readers think would be the best?

Thank you

Oren Elimelech

In this month's Stereo Review's Sound & Vision mag, they review 3 remotes:

Marantz RC1200 ($180)
Sony RM-AV2100 ($180)
Xantech URC-2 ($200)

The also mention the HK TC1000 (and the Pronto/RC5000) but they don't do full review s(I'm guessing the cost was out of the range of the others).

There was no clear-cut winner, but my take on the reviews was that the Sony came out on top for coolness factor and the Marantz was the best functionally.

Of course, none can beat the Pronto in coolness & customizing capabilities, IMHO.

Hope this helps.

If I would do it over, I would have purchased the silver European Pronto, this way I got a cool silver finish, it has all the beeps/timers, and it matches the recharging base. I believe Etronixs has this one still. I have the greenish-blackish-blueish color one, which is okay, but it would be better if it was silver to match the base, plus look a little more high-techie...

The interesting thing is the silver one came out much after the blue/green one ("midnight sea foam"). Makes me wonder why the charger was silver in the first place...
