Just take a look at the T/C forum, on the first page alone there are several up for sale. There really is no comparison between the Pronto and the T/C. The Pronto wins hands down, and a price of $275 to $325, is not all that bad for what you can do with the Pronto, like home automation, timers, music themes, games, calendars, cd changers, password-controlled screens, etc.

$275 - $325? I know some people that paid $400 and they are not disapointed at all. I am really glad I made the Pronto jump because I know I would have not been satisfied with anything less even with all the re-boot problems I had for six weeks that is now resolved. No question go for the gold..........................

I bought my RC5000 in June 99 in New York for $350 and was one of the first to have one here in the UK. I can honestly say this is a product that skates very close to being perfect. It's flexible, simple to use and very hard to outgrow. It has seen daily service since June and looks like new. I finally stopped tinkering with my CCF about 3 months ago and have it set so that it is easy to use any item or bunch of items in my system. My girlfriend can now watch a DVD without the need for me to set any parameters or equipment, she thinks the RC5000 is ace. Having compared the RC5000 to a friends TC1000 I can honestly say there's no competition either in use, ergonomically or in ability. I'm looking forward to seeing who can top the RC5000/Pronto cause whatever manages to do that will be SOME piece of kit!

Playing devil's advocate......
Whilst to many (if not most) the Pronto is 'the ideal' piece of kit let's not forget that the learning curve on the Pronto is far steeper than that on the TC1000. Yes, the end result is far sexier and likley more flexible but for those who want an ultimate 'one for all' remote with the least hassle the TC1000 is still an excellnet piece of kit.
I know there are quite a few users who have used both and prefer the TC1000 (although I do realise that most prefer the Pronto). Let's not forget that it is after all personal choice. And let's not forget that there have been quite a few Prontos/RC5000s for sale on this forum too.
Finally, I too would love to see what topples the Pronto fro it's tower cos, yes, that will be some amazing piece of technology. (Will it likley be the upgraded Pronto with colour screen and all?)
Regards

Neil, Whats wrong with going first class? I like having full control to make MY remote what I want it to be. I have refined mine to suit me perfectly and no other remote at this time offers this. It may not be perfect but it is so much better than all the rest..................

Good Point Neil, But playing devil's advocate... TC1000 users better be handy with a soldering Iron to upgrade the IR emmitter :-) Have you seen the "Mod's" threads, lately. Here are a couple interesting links to save from digging through all the forsale threads. [Link: remotecentral.com][Link: remotecentral.com]

I feel that if people want quick and easy, then the new Sony remote is probably better at that than the TC1000, not to mention the better price. The Sony is nice and for those that do not want to fully program a remote, this is probably the next ideal remote with a clean interface and good useability. But for those of us that want to actually "take control", the Pronto should have been named "Take Control", instead of the TC1000. The TC1000 probably would have been better had Microsoft stayed out of the picture.
Just kidding about MS, for those of you that are fans...

There is absolutley nothing at all wrong with 'going first class' and I felt my post would have communicated that yes I believe it to be just that but do not wish to knock the TC1000 just because I love the Pronto. I also love my BMW 3 series but that doesn't mean everyone should or does!
By the way George, I used a TC1000 before getting my Pronto and experienced absolutley none of the problems mentioned on this site. Scrolling was very very quick, backlight equally as good as the Pronto and no problems whatsoever with the IR emitters. Could zap any of my equipment from anywhere within a 30' distance. Maybe that is due to the fact that mine is an IRIQ not the H/K version?? Only piece of kit that gave problems was a Kenwood hi-fi but even it's own remote has to be pointed within a 5 degree line of it. (Narrowed that one down to the rx in the unit, buried deep behind the front panel, rather than the tx in the remote.)
And before I get flamed let me say that yes, I agree the Pronto is an amazing and astounding piece of kit and I just love mine, but that is MY opinion and I'm not one to knock other kit just because I love what I have. As I said, I used a TC1000 (still have it in the cupboard actually) and thought it is a well implemented piece of kit. If only I could have a scroll and click wheel on my Pronto - would certainly make choosing a CD/DVD from my listing much easier and could get far more on screen.
I guess therefore that even the Pronto is not absolutely ideal!!!

It seems to vary as to if you see the T/C screen as not as good as Pronto. I also had an IRIQ and found the Pronto screen much better for these 40 year old eyes.
I also think it depends on your equipment how well the TC/IRIQ IR behaves. For me it worked fine with 4 pieces and VERY poor with a 5th. And yes it was the only component that was picky about IR even with the original remote. But the Pronto has NO problem, not even pickyness with that component.
Weak screen and weak IR seems to be a common theme in the TC/IRIQ forum. Both these attributes on the TC/IRIQ are below a critical threshold for many people while the Pronto is well above. Many folks lick their wounds sell/return it and buy a Pronto.
The difference between IRIQ and TC is about the same as the difference between Pronto and RC5000.

I recently purchased a Pronto from IEC and really like it. I had the H/K since it first came out and thought it was the greatest thing around. Unfortunately, it would not run macros on my Dish Network unit. Worked fine for one button stuff but didn't have the IR juice for macros. The wheel was a great tool and I miss it on my Pronto. However, the custom templates for the Pronto made it an immediate hit with the family. I like the H/K's (software) approach to dealing with devices and wizard for learning codes. I believe each has strengths with fewer current weaknesses for the Pronto. I think the H/K was ahead of its time but sadly hasn't seen much evolution in the display or custmization. The Pronto has been a solid step up and I would highly recommend a test drive before purchasing the H/K.
