I just got my RC5K and cannot get the computer to talk to the remote.
I have tried different com ports.
I switched the mouse to com2 and tried the remote on com1.
I deleted the com ports and rebooted.
I can use com2 with my digital camera.
I can get response from the remote using a terminal prog on com2.
I just cant get the RC5K software to find the remote.
I can't get it to upload or download.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Pat

I think I have the same problem. Earlier today I was using ProntoEdit fine, and had already programmed some panels, but then the computer and the Pronto stopped communicating. I get the message "Failed to get valid information from Pronto" when I try to upload from Pronto into ProntoEdit. I tried rebooting, switching com ports, etc., but no help. Does anyone know why it would be working one moment, and then not the next?

Thanks.

I just kept rebooting until it found it in 98. In 2000, it seems to find it all the time with release 1.05. However, this crashing problem is killing me! I spent 4 hours with new configs and the last save was corrupt. REMEMBER TO SAVE AS 2 DIFFERENT FILES WHEN YOU CAN!

Make sure the cable is pushed all of the way into the Marantz

I have plugged and unplugged the cable a bunch of times both the computer end and the remote end.
Took the modem out of the computer and removed it from the configuration. Rebooted.
I have tried pressing the backlight button before attempting to upload.
If and when the new software for Marantz comes out, I will install it.
Could that be the problem?
Thanks,
Pat

Which operating system are you running? Does your camera have "perminant" software installed that may be occupying the port? Exactly what error message is the software giving you?

I am running a dual boot system with Win98 and NT.
In 98 the error message is "RC5000 not connected or not responding" and under details it has:
COM1: access denied (in use by other application?)
COM2: opened but no response from RC5000
COM3: opened but no response from RC5000

com1 is my mouse and com 3 is my internal modem that I am not using. The RC5000 is connected to COM2.

When I try under NT I get the same message "RC5000 not connected or not responding" but under details it is totally blank.

Is there a way to see if the camera software has a perminent grip on the port?
I will try uninstalling the camera software after work today to see if that helps.

Thanks
Pat

Hi all,

I had the same problems before...try this :

1. Turn your computer off
2. Unplug your modem cable
3. plug your Pronto cable in (no need to plug the remote)
4. Turn your computer on

This should do it, as the Pronto is not "Plug and Play".

This can seem very very simple, but it worked for me.
You shouldn't need to remove your modem from the configuration.

Now, I can replace the modem with the pronto even if the computer is on, and it works properly. Both are recognised on this port.

Good luck
Steve

OK, I removed the camera software and even went into the registry to make sure there wasn't any trace of it left....and still no luck. I get the excact same error message.

Steve, the modem is internal, so no cable to unplug.
good idea...thanks for trying.

Anyone else with a fresh perspective?
Thanks
Pat

You mention you can get other items to work on Com2, so it can't be an IRQ/port/configuration problem. And you say it won't find it on Com1 either? Seems weird. Do you have access to any other system you can try it on?

O.K. Here is my two cents on this topic. I had this very same problem and it took months to find the answer. I was even recieving the exact same error messages, "Com 2 open, no response from pronto." I too, figured it to be an IRQ or I/O address problem so I spent hours fussing with the device manager...no results. Here is what I did:
1. Start/settings/control panel/double click accessibility options.
2. Click on the "general" Tab.
3. Check the support serial key devices box
4. Click Settings.
5. Choose the Com port you want to use for your RC5000(I'm guessing Com2).
6. Click apply/click O.K. to exit.
7. Now restart your computer and access the CMOS setup menu (click restart/keep pushing the DEL key as the computer re-boots, and the menu will appear.
8. Scroll through the menu and access your "on board serial port 1&2" information.(I would tell you specifically where to find this but i've seen it different places on various computers...try "chipsets," or "integrated peripherals")
9. Write down your On Board Seial Port Settings( Probably COM1 and COM2)
10. Now, Change On Board Serial Port 1 to "COM 2"
11. Change On Board Serial Port 2 to "COM 4"
12. Hit ESC and choose EXIT and SAVE Changes and you will leave the CMOS setup menu. The computer will now re-boot.

Sorry, let me finish. The computer should now communicate with the RC5000 using the Edit Software. If not, try plugging it in to any other available serial port (d-shaped 9 pin male or d-shaped 25 pin male).IMPORTANT...Your modem will now be disabled and you must not touch or move the mouse while the pronto and the edit sofware upload or download. Any other time, you have complete control of the mouse. What happens is moving the mouse while the RC5000 is uploading or Downloading will corrupt the information transfer and freeze the mouse functions. As far as the modem goes, reverse everything...change CMOS back to default settings and un check the serial key devices and your modem will operate normally again. Good Luck! I hope this is not too confusing and I certainly hope that it works for you. I understand your frustration.

Wow Ryan I thought for sure that was going to work.
You went into great detail and your instructions were very easy to follow.
I have failed miserably. After changing everything exactly per your instructions I didn't get a connection and the details box was completely blank :(

Daniel, I guess I will have to burn the software to a cd and take it over to my Dad's...I would just download it over there but he only has 33.6 connection and I don't feel like waiting a day and a half for it to download :-) (My cable connection has me spoiled)
Thanks
Pat
