Ok you IR Code hackers is there consensus as to which remote is best for extracting codes from?

Are any of you (besides AHP) hacking the data yourself to create new codes or just to fix repeat type problems. I assume most of you are doing trial and error to find codes.

I've heard Cinema 7 and Take Control (which one).

I want to try to find codes for my less popular components Rotel Tuner and Yahmaha VCR. Which I realize may not exist.

George,

I think the Home Theater Director has all of the codes that Universal Electronics has in their library at this time and are accessible via the "magic" keys. This remote just makes it a bit easier to find the codes you're looking for by running the "magic" key in numeric sequence until you hit the one you want. Some other people here have found their missing codes in this manner.

Can any of these remotes be updated by punching in a number from the internet. Or are these folks punching in numbers to access codes that are in the remote.

George,
These remotes have preset "lookup" tables which contain what they term "executers" that work with all the remotes that they have captured codes for to date. You may want to go to their site (universalelectronics.com) I think as they have a code request Email that you can send and they'll verify which remote (chipset) has the codes you're looking for. As has been mentioned elsewhere, there aren't that many remote executors in use, just a lot of possibilities in each (001-999) magic codes. In essence, as I understand their remotes, when you use a "magic code" via the "magic button" the number you're plugging in is forcing a lookup to a particular executor and then running that particular code number.
I hope this helps.
Further, if you can get the code number to enter in the remote to run your gear, I'll learn them into a Pronto and pass to you.

George,
Well don't bother with the previous www address unless you're into working out.
Here's the correct one:

Okay, reading from above, the Home Theater Director has the most "magic" codes. Do these codes also have discrete on/off commands for different devices? I'm looking for codes specifically for Magnavox RPTVs, Sony 5-disc CD changers, Sony's EP9ES processor, Sony DVD players and for a Pioneer Elite CLD-79 LD player. TIA!

Do a search for "DVL-909" these on/off codes might work on your Pioneer.

I found one universal remote, The Tune In! from Berry Systems (http://www.theclicker.com/) that has a built in modem for updates of IR codes, so I guess they are commited to keeping it current.

I sent an e-mail asking if they support discrete power for the Yamaha DSP-A3090 and a Yamaha DVD-1000. The owner, Jack Beery, quickly replied that they did support it for the DSP-A3090 but not for the DVD-100. I was impressed with the personal response.

There was someone else I sawe who tried to get the DSP-A3090 code using the Cinema 7 remote with no luck. So these folks seem to have a leg up, at least for that model.

I was debating whether it is worth $50 to buy one of their remotes just to get two codes. Anyone ever use this remote before?

I have a pronto code generator that is completed for all Sony and NEC formatted remotes, and all x10 codes for IR to x10 controllers. This includes all Pioneer remotes. I can send you a Pronto hex file for any devices by these mfgs. What I need is a small learned sample so I can decode it (I have the decoder also) to get the device number. The sample is best of the numeric keypad, volume buttons (up down mute) and channel buttons (up dn last). I want these because they are normally sequential in the function key code number space. The HEX formats for these manufacturers are fully documented in a paper on the Prontoedit site, in the CCF download area. Search for MS word. my email is [email protected]. It takes me 10-15 minutes to do one (all the time is in the decoding) and 1 second to generate the set. I will also send the common use of keys, i.e. what keys are what code numbers. I have the format for the Scientific Atlantic Cabnle box thanks to the decoder, but I have had no requests for the hex file except for one individual so I didn't generate it, but I do have it available as code numbers.

Sometimes I am busy, sometimes I am watching movies, and sometimes I have some free time like tonight. My wife brought work home from the office and told me to get busy.

Les, that is a pretty interesting remote. A couple friends of mine would be very interested in the Pronto if it had a sleep timer.

I think $50.00 would be hard to justify for the couple codes. And since the 3090 is such a popular receiver I think you can be sure it will end up here or at prontoedit.com if it exists.

As to the DVD-1000, I'll bet someone else makes that unit (Toshiba, Pioneer, etc.).
