Does this exist? If not, does anyone have the RS232 programming codes? We'll write it ourselves.

Failing the above, does someone have contact info in Philips (I assume) where we can get this info.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, neither a Mac version nor the programming specs have been made available. Philips will not be releasing that information. For now, the best you can do is run ProntoEdit through a Windows emulator (there's been a lot of discussion on this).

Congratulations! I am having difficulty.

Are you using Virtual PC 2.1 or 3.O?
Are you running Windows 98?

I was not successful with 2.1 or with
SoftWindows95.

VPC 3.0 works on my Mac running W98.

I never could get VPC 2.1 to connect to my RC5000, but the new version works fine.

SoftWindows 98 always used to work as well - although I haven't tried the latest version since it was sold off from Insignia.

The only problem I encountered with SW98 that didn't occur with VPC was that bmp's that were pasted into buttons created in RC Setup using SW98 never looked the same when downloaded to the remote.

If only there were a Mac version - we're not talking high-powered software here...

Take Care -

Michael and cowtown,

VPC 3.0 on my Mac works very nicely, there really isn't any reason to have a separate Mac version. It does everythingon the Mac it can on a PC.

Take care

Mark,

i'm running SW 5.0.4 w/ Win95. as i absolutely abhor the windoze platform, i see no reason to ever upgrade from this version. it's a nessary evil required to run my RC5000.

David,

there's a perfect reason to have a Mac version, we own Macs! SW works on my G3 desktop, but not my PowerBook, why will it see the comm ports on one but not the other? windoze is shit, even emulated. why should we be forced to subject ourselves to this crap? even for winblows software, PE/RCSetup is a kludge. give us a Mac version.

philips should just release the specs, we'd support it ourselves, they'd never even have to think about us and then we can throw windoze in the trash for good...

As a Mac guy I think that a Mac version would be welcome. The inherent problem is that there are probably too few of the RC5000/Prontos sold to justify the investment in making a Mac version.

Code Warrior for the Mac/PC makes hybrid applications, but I don't know how well they work.

Virtual PC is a good idea, but I have a PC along with a Mac. The problem is that I do all my artwork on my Mac, so anything I do has to be transferred to the PC. I suppose I could share folders between them.

that's my point. there would be ZERO investment on Philips part. give us the specs and we'll do it ourselves...

Try VPC 3.0 and see how that works. It should solve any problems you were having. Which G3 PowerBook are you using?

Hi from Neil, UK
We've just bought a Pronto and found this first-class site. Great work.
Just a suggestion.. if all us Mac users e-mailed or wrote to Philips politely suggesting a Mac version of ProntoEdit, at least they would be aware of the demand, and could give serious consideration to whether it's worth their providing a Mac version, or at least releasing the necessary codes to a Mac programmer.
We have an iMac DVSE and the main problem we have found so far is finding a lead to connect the two.
Thanks again for a great site

This is what I received back from the MAC predjudiced Philips. (They sent me to you folks! Ha Ha!!! Real good customer service! I'll NEVER buy any Philips junk, period.)

I wrote...............

When will you have ProntoEdit available for the more superior Macintosh personal computer? I received it as a gift from an Intel-based PC user trying to get me to switch. I never would have bought a non-MAC compatible piece of hardware or software. Please help.

Bill

Dear madam/sir,

Thank you for your email.

It is indeed true that there is no MacOS version of ProntoEdit
available. It will only work on Windows 3.11/95/98/NT up till now. On
the other hand, many MacOS users have been experimenting using
ProntoEdit on MacOS, and they succeeded in various manners: If you're
using VirtualPC, there's a workabout where you will have to do some
little things to get it working, and if you're using SoftWindows 95/98,
you'll be able to use it just like a Windows user. You need a standard
DB-9 to Mac DIN08 adapter, since the serial port may have a different
connector.
If you'd like to know the details about using ProntoEdit on a MacOS, you
could take a look at the FAQ list, made by enthousiastic Pronto users:
http://www.remotecentral.com.

Kind regards,
Vincent Pfeil
