Doc,

Have you tried adding a delay in the macro before and after the ON command is sent to your 55U? It might help.

Doc, I have no idea what the flashing green light means; I have to check if it occurs on my 55, this weekend. Re the discrete on code, I agree with Christopher, in that I have a .2 delay after sending the ON alias during my macros, and have never had a problem. The 55 always turns on from these macros. I still don't know what the flashing green light means; the red to green is a turn-on indication, as you probably already know.

I currently am using a .2 second delay between each of the (three in a row) discrete 'on' commands sent to the 55U. These are the first part of my macro.

One bit of strangeness that may help here, is that when I use the discrete on directly from the button I have it learned in, it seems to work fine.

Another bit of weirdness is that *sometimes* it works OK in the macro, but only if the projector has been in the off/ready state (red light only) for at least 2 or three minutes. If it has been less than that, that is when I get the green power light and a flashing green light to go with it.

FYI - the discrete on that is used in my macros is a direct alias to the individual button that seems to work just fine.

This is *really* frustrating, especially since everything appears to be set up correctly, and the original button seems to be fine. It makes little sense to me that the aliased command is having a problem. If/when I finally get the manual for my 55U (I bought a demo model, and they had to order the manual for me), I may be a bit more clear on what the flasing light indicates, or why I am having probs. I can only hope

PS - for anyone curious, the demo was at a well known HT store. They replaced it in their sample theater with a 100U (now *that* is an awesome machine!). They sold me the unit, with full warranty, for 1800, and threw in all mounting hardware (ceiling, pedestal) and a spare bulb for another 300. They had already ISF tuned it, and I will be dropping it off for a professional cleaning to get some dust off the panels and lens, at their expense. All-in-all, I am ecstatic about this purchase. Now, if I can only break myself away from it for a week to get the cleaning done! Not sure if I can handle *that* ;-)

Doc, Your purchase was an ABSOLUTE STEAL!!!!! I paid aroud 4,800 when it first came out, and that was a bargain at the time!! I am not sure why you need a cleaning for the unit, unless you have problems or dark pixils, etc. Why do they think you need to get it cleaned??

Doc,

I had a similar problem with my old Sharp LCD projector (called something something 20 somethin here in Europe). However, tyhe inability to restart within a few minutes apllied both to original remote and pronto (macro or not), and was apparently part of a protection system for the projector itself (avoid burnt out panels or something). Are you certain you have tested both the macro ON and the individual ON under the same circumstances, and the problem only applies to the macro? If you get the same problem (i.e. inability to switch on within a few minutes of having switched off) I think it has something to do with the projector and not the Pronto. I don't think it's "healthy" to keep switching it off and on too frequently, although I sympathize with the need to test your macros.

Harris -

Dusty panels. Maintenance on *that* problem SUCKS for it's expense, but they are going to due it 'pre-warranty' (the vendor is going to send it in as an 'in stock' item).

Great deal, plus they threw in the extra bulb and ceiling mount kit cheap cheap! I still haven't managed to get *anything* done around the house since setting it up. It is now used as the display for TV via TIVO, my DVD, Dreamcast, *and* my PC! I have a great VGA-NTSC converter on its way that will handle 1280*1024 32bpp(my PC's tv card will only out NTSC @ 800*600), and it works by intercepting the VGA *outside* the PC, which means I will be able to shuffle my Voodoo graphics through it. Unreal, 8 feet tall!!!! 'Nuff said!

Doc, Do you actually see any adverse effects from the dust?? I have had my unit in continuous service for 3 years, and see no artifacts at all. I clean the foam filter every six months; that's it - no other maintenance has ever been needed on mine. It's a shame to have to bring the unit in to a shop, and the hassle of reinstalling it on the ceiling, unless you have to!

I am also using a video out, via an ATI Rage 98, and it looks great.

I can actually *see* the dust on the projected image. I have not purchased and installed a screen, so I always have a first response (almost nightly) of thinking that my wall is dirty ;-)

So, it *is* worth it to have it serviced, and get the dust off of the panels, and it looks like some is on the inner lens as well. I just hate being without it for a week! I dont have a regular TV, and I sold my PC monitor.

Speaking of the PC, what resolution does you Rage98 output at? My AIW will only output @ 800*600, which suck. A lot. I am waiting on a VGA-NTSC converter ([Link: pcnation.com]), which provides 1280*1024*32bpp. The advantage of this is that it intercepts the video signal *after* the video card, which means 2 things: 1) I can use *any* video card I like, whether it has TV out or not, and 2) I can use video daughter cards, instead of having the video path shorted at the primary adapter (this means I don't lose my Voodoo2!)

Last item - I am not yet ceiling mounted. I have assembled a makeshift, but sturdy!, entertainment center *behind* my seating are, and the projector is on the top of it (approx 80" off the floor). I am renting where I am at, and will just hold off on ceiling mounting it, unless/until my landlord agrees to let me pre-wire the apartment.
