Probably because your home pages are write protected. Bring up the properties of Home, and one of the first things you'll see is a write protection tab. Uncheck that, download, and you'll be on the road.

This is a FAQ, but on the other hand, it's such a F A Q that one has to wonder if it's the right design in the first place.

Lex,

from the factory, the home page is locked. the only way to change the device names in the home page is to upload it to the computer (using RC5000 Setup or ProntoEdit and uncheck the box "Home panels are write-protected" in the Home Properties. while you've got it on the computer you might as well change the titles there with your pc's keyboard instead of the remote's keypad. also while you have it on the computer, add some graphics. those gray oval buttons get old REAL quick. you don't even have to make your own, just download other people's system ccf files from the files section here. once you've got it looking good download it back to the remote.

caveat #1: save to disk often so you don't lose hours worth of work...

caveat #2: if you use ProntoEdit (1.04's the newest), ***DON'T*** use the "update pronto" from the Tools menu. you have an RC5K, not a Pronto. bad things happen...

Can anyone help, still learning all this stuff..how can i use someone elses icons on my home page and other panels..i have tried creating a home panel and then double clicking onto a button i want to change. when i get into button properties i have gone into inactive icons and attempted to load a new icon..but it looks for bitmaps and will not recognise the ccf files i have downloaded into a seperate file. i think i have to change the individual icons into bitmaps, how can i do this?
Also, i have tried the other method where i load another persons ccf files, delete eveything but the icon i want then save it as a temp file. i then close everything down, re run set up with my own config and open the saved icon and merge it with my config. i then cut and paste the icon to where i want it. but no matter what i try , when i double click on the icon i just grabbed the jump menu shows the original setting from the orignal icon owner and not the devices i have set up on my config. Why is this?? What do i have to do...i cant believe that this is really that dificult and have the feeling i am missing something very obvious! is anyone willing to get involved in an email conversation to help me out with the basics of this as i really want to get this remote customised and have lots of ideas , but cant get of the launch pad...any help would be greatly appreciated

CCF files are full configuration files not icon libraries.
There are several ways to copy an image.

1) In the properties of buttons underneath the icon there are three buttons, one of them is called "save ". Press save to save someone else's icon then press load on the button you want to add this icon.
2) If there is a button you like, while pressing the alt key move the button over your own, this copies the icon you like to your button but leaves the code and name you had originally.
3) If you like someone's page, just add your code to their buttons.

Hope this helps .
