I just purchased the New PS Two, the new slim ps2 with builtin broadband. I have read on the forum that people say there weren't any discrete codes for the old PS2 models that would turn the unit on and off, but I believe they exist on this model.

Using the old "Standby IR" code the unit will always turn ON.

0000 0067 0000 0015 0060 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 01e0

If I hold the Standby button for a couple of seconds then the unit turns off or goes into "Standby".

What I need to know is how to separate the preamble so that I can have an IR code that always sends the unit into Standby or OFF. I am not familiar with how I need to modify the IR code to accomplish or simulate the holding of the button. Any help would be appreciated.

You can try teaching the code by covering the remote with your hand while pressing the button and then moving your hand after a few seconds.I do this when I have to learn a code from a jog-wheel remote and after a few tries it works. I would try it first before trying to learn the code.

Also I know the old Playstation codes were just Sony's DVD codeset 1 codes. You can find discretes for all three sony DVD codesets on this site and try those too.

From the code you posted, the Sony Device ID is 7002, I determined this value by using the IRTool command available in the files section.

I then used Makehex (files section) to gen the 2 codes for functions 0x2E (46) and 0x2F(47) which are the discrete power on/off function codes used for Sony DVDs. These codes may work with your PS2 but you'll need 2 test.

Power On 0x2E

0000 0067 0000 0015 0061 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 01CB

Power Off 0x2F

0000 0067 0000 0015 0061 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 01B3

Please feel free to gen other codes using Makehex as you see fit. From the code you posted, I don't think any Sony DVD CCF file you might download will contain the codes you seek.

That reminds me... I really wish someone would update IRTool, or at least run with the idea. That was always the most useful utility with a GUI for quickly analyzing and modifying IR codes, but it just doesn't understand enough formats (and can't handle corrupt codes either).

Dan Arnold over at the JP1 group modified IRTool to work with John Fine's DecoderIR.dll that decodes about 60+ IR protocols. John has written three other programs, DecodeCCF, cml2efc and ccf2efc that also work with that same dll.

DecodeCCF will decode a ccf file from any of the format variations and create a file sutable for importing into Excel that has Protocol, Device, sub-device, and Function (aka OBC) and list the menu/panel and function. It can also decode Pronto RC5 (5000), RC5x (5001), RC6 (6000), NEC (900x) and some 7000 commands. cml2efc can decode the RTI-TT cml files and ccf2efc can decode Pronto ccf files and also returns the Pronto hex, but only works with the TU-1000 format. You can export a file to that format in ProntoEditv4, but sometimes must delete some devices in order not to exceed the file size limits.

They are in the files at the JP1 Yahoo group, but you must join first. You also need to download DecodeIR.dll and put it in the windows\system directory theprograms mentioned are are in either:

Perhaps, but the modification isn't fully functional. It merely seems to piggyback on top of IRTool, it doesn't enhance any of IRTool's actual functionality, which is decoding all aspects of an IR hex code and then allowing you to quickly modify them and create a new one.

It doesn't add code support to IRTool either, just the popup window.

I checked the codes against the new PS2 and they worked great! Thanks Lyndel. They should probably be posted in the file section under the Discrete codes so they are easy to find for everyone.

Jedware,

How about learniing all the buttons on your remote and then also including the 2 codes I posted and upload the PCF/CCF containing a simple page with buttons containing the IR code data?

I only like to upload codesets that I, myself have tested or have the ability to test. I don't have access to a PS Two. As a result, I don't feel comfortable uploading codes that I can't label them appropriately and don't know beyond a doubt if they work.

I might suggest you take the lead on learing/using Makehex40 and IRPanels (from the Pronto Files Section) to create a CCF that others can use. To use IRPanels, you will need to download CCFTools as well as IRPanels requiries the CCFDLL.DLL file to run.

I think it is functional but it does, in fact, just add a popup window with the decoder's interpretation of the command. Most of the decoded commands can be easily created with MakeHex. It also reduces the tedium of manually decoding bi-phase and other increasingly sophisticated IR commands (many that have some form of check byte).

I don't have the remote for the PS2. I was just in need of the discrete codes to program my pronto pro to switch between the different devices correctly. The codes are working for me but we can wait for someone else to confirm that these are indeed discrete codes for the new PS2. Once confirmed, I think they should be listed with all the other discrete codes.

Don't know just how/where you searched but if you go here, there are files for the PS2.

For some reason I didn't spot the 'game systems' category so I ended up looking under the dvd section! Sorry for the lack of observation and thanks for the pointer!

Laurie,

Glad you are on your way. Once you have your CCF file completed, you may want to post a Component CCF with a complete set of known IR codes for this model including the discrete codes I generated above.
