Could you describe what about the remote makes you call it "in a loop?" Here are instructions for getting out of the only thing I have ever heard of as "a loop." If this applies, enjoy! This comes from the Pronto FAQs, by the way.
If your remote is constantly rebooting every few seconds, as in after you "CANCELLED" a CCF download in ProntoEdit, you can fix it via this method: 1.Connect your remote to your PC. 2.Open a terminal program (such as HyperTerminal, which is included with Windows). 3.Connect to the serial (COM) port your remote is hooked up to at 115200 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and no flow control. 4.Hit the reset button on the back of your remote control. On the terminal program you should start to see numbers such as "00 02 04", etc. 5.Hit the [ESC] key on your keyboard. A prompt, CABERNET> should appear. 6.Type dl ccf followed by return. You should see a slowly growing string of C's. 7.While those C's are appearing, download your CCF file to the remote using the XModem protocol (Transfer -> Send File). 8.When the download has finished, type go followed by the return key on your keyboard. Your remote should now work correctly. This problem can also sometimes be fixed by attempting to upgrade the firmware while the remote reboots, however it may take many attempts to catch the remote at the right instant. pfaq.htm - a6pfaq.htm - a6

Of course, you could also simply flash the firmware. When it asks you to press the reset button, don't - the next time it beeps, it should take right off.

Yes it will. However, you need to catch the remote at just the right time during the reboot cycle. It's not always easy to catch, some people have had to make a dozen attempts before it works. Jim L

OK - now that I've given you the short answer, I'll explain. When the remote is in a reboot loop, what's actually happening is the firmware is loaded and it is then attempting to load the CCF - which is either corrupt or incomplete. the remote resets, beeps, loads the firmware and tries the CCF again... ad nauseum.
When you flash the firmware, you will be asked to reset the remote because the reset command sent by the firmware is not being responded to - the next time the remote resets (beeps) it sends a response out its serial port indicating such and the firmware updater takes off. You then redownload the sys and app files and, since your CCF is corrupted and cannot be saved, you also redownload the default CCF.
Regardless of how you got the remote to get caught in that loop - unplug the cable, push the cancel button (dumbest thing I've ever seen since you should NEVER cancel a download), or the remote simply times out - this will work.

This is just an example of some of the ways in which the software, in its various incarnations, does not pay attention to a Windows convention here and there. They should never have included the CANCEL button. And I should be able to change my Touch Screen Setup so that when it opens, it highlights 5200 every time, not 5000 every time. And when I save a file in a directory, the program should remember what directory it was stored in, not store it in whatever directory I was opening ANYTHING from last (say, to look up a ccf to merge, OR EVEN A BMP in a totally different directory ! !). Does CANCEL safely work on upload from a remote?

Ernie, if you use Windows XP, the last directory used is remembered.

This happened to me yesterday when doing a download. I tried unplugging the battery, the reset button didn't work, no revert, and it kept indicating "corrupt configuration" Finally, I just downloaded the file to it again and it returned to normal.

Thanks for this thread - my RC9200 barfed part way through applying a ccf, but I was able to follow this procedure and fix it. One tip - I upgraded Hyperterm from www.hilgraeve.com, because the version that comes with Windows is a bit buggy.
