I have a 2000 refurbed unit. At a recent party, someone spilled something into the remote. I did not find out until the next day. The remote was dead and upon opening the battery compartment there was water(or some other liquid) visable. I removed the battery pack and let the thing dry out for a couple of days. The remote came back to life but began to exhibit a reboot problem, which it has not done since I got it.
What the remote does is this: once I get it up and running, as soon as it goes dark (auto off function) it is gone. Rarely, after repeatedly tapping on screen or hitting backlight bution, it will reboot back up. Mostly it stays dead until I reflash the firmware or "undead" from Tonto.
I have reflashed firmware at least four times now and still have the problem.
On a side note: I also noticed that one of the small gold pins inside the battery compartment is bent forward and is probably not making contact. I tried to straighten it out but think I may have made it worse. The battery pack itself has a small indent on the bottom were the pin is hitting it. I put 4 AA's in it for now.
I went through the FAQ and tried everything I think. Should I send this in for repair or does anybody have any other suggestions?

Does it work with the AAs? If so then I'll just use those from now on. The gold pins is what charges the battery pack. Yeah it might cost you a little bit more to use the AAs. But at least you have a remote.

I used the remote most of last night with the AA's after two more firmware flashes with no problems.
Although it had rebooted a couple of times previous to my last two firmware flashes with AA's.
I'll see if it is still working tonight.

OK, I think I have solved the problem.
After reflashing multiple times with no effect, I went and got a torx screwdriver and pulled the thing apart. There was still liquid and liquid residue (from a soft drink I assume) inside the remote. I rinsed/flushed the whole thing (not the screen part)under hot water for a few minutes. After blow drying it and putting back together, it works!!!
Of course it has only been one day but it did not reboot at all last night and it woke right up this morning to the touch.
I also think I have straightend the charge pin connector out. So i'll put the battery pack back in if it stays alive for the rest of the week.
Thanks to somebody in here. I saw the water idea posted somewhere, not sure where.
