How can you tell if a remote is New or Refurbished? Is there a mark that the factory places on the remote to indicate that it has been refurbished?

You would normally see a sticker on the back of the remote as well as in the battery compartment that would say "Renewed by Philips". Of course, those stickers can be removed...

you did not say what remote you are looking at, but if it is a Pronto and it is not a 3000 then there is not much of a chance it is new (the 3000 came out almost a year ago and production on the 2000 stopped more then a year ago)
