Does anyone successfully and simultaneously run 2 Sony 200 disc DVP changers? My DVD collection is growing and I want to make sure I have room for growth. I'm considering adding another 200 disc changer and running it with the Supernudelist.

Thoughts and comments appreciated,

What remote control are you using???

My advice would be to sell the 850 and get the new 777ES 400 DIsc changer.(Or 985)

THe 777 has 3 IR modes for use in mutiple player situations.... The 850 might have this as well, but Icant remember for certain... Look on the back of the unit for a 123 switch

I run 2 875s with no problem, using IR1 for the first and IR3 for the second. I use music collector and movie collector as my databases and SNL for selection. Lyndel has done a great job with SNL for flexibility and it works like a charm.

You cannot run 2 850's side-by-side unless you completely block the IR sensor on one and run it using RF.

My suggestion is to either use an 850 with another model that supports command modes 1,2,or 3. If you use Command Mode 2 or 3, these players for sure will be able to co-exist.

FYI, I use a single 860 but will be buying another changer if SNL donations continue. I'm around $100.00 away from being able to afford the 985. However, I'd really like to have the 777ES.

I owned the 850, the 860, and the 870. I also owned the Pioneer DV-F727.

I now own several Kenwood Sovereign changers. I also own the new Sony DVP-CX777ES, which I am only using as a SACD changer, though might throw some DVDs in there.

Before buying another 850 (and they've long been discontinued, so you'd be in the used market), I would strongly urge you to consider the Kenwood (either the DV-5050M, or, preferably, the DV-5900M). Even despite my recent addition of the Sony DVP-CX777ES, I have to give the nod to Kenwood on build quality, but, more importantly, its features.

First, you'll get the 400 disc capacity. Second, the Kenwood offers the only true daisy-chaining ability among DVD changers--each unit has digital audio inputs, as well as video inputs (in addition to outputs)--which solves your remote control issues. Finally, the Kenwood offers the Entre unit, which catapults the whole issue of changer management and user interface into a different dimension. While you may not opt for an Entre right away, even without one the Kenwoods will offer more versatility than the Sony.

PQ and sound quality on the Sonys and the Kenwoods are both excellent, although the 850 is not a progressive scan model, and I don't know how important that is to you. The Kenwood DV-5900M has Faroudja processing, although I use my DVD changers from their interlaced outputs to an outboard video processor.

I do recall the very good performance of the 850, but the Sony Disc Explorer system is the worst user interface available, bar none (I'm not sure if the 850 even had Disc Explorer . . . but all the later models do). In truth, the Kenwood's interface is not terribly better, unless you add an Entre unit, in which case it's unmatched.

Changers are a great thing. I have a fairly decent audio and video setup, and I don't feel I'm losing a thing by keeping "changers" in a relatively high end ensemble. I now use one set of Kenwood changers, plus Entre, strictly for music--CD, DVD-Audio, and Music DVD--while another set of changers, plus Entre, for movies. The Sony 777ES was added purely because I had accumulated over 100 SACD discs, and I wanted changer management for those.

Good luck.

Nick

Before jumping on the Kenwood bandwagon, you will want to check out AVSFORUM as there are many many issues with the Kenwood Entre. So many, in fact, that they've started a separate thread.

I know a guy with Kenwood changers and he just dumped his Entre because of all the issues.

However, he did keep the changers.

Personally, I don't like the Folder Explorer on the Sony and never use it. I use supernudelist to exclusively control my DVD changers with all CDs and DVDs being organized by Catraxx. I can't say enough good things about Catraxx. I've also heard that DVD Profiler is wonderful. Both can be used in conjunction with SuperNudelist.

I have owned the Kenwood for nearly two years, and I have been one of the most active participants on AVS in the Entre threads. Up until this past summer, I was a chief complainer, because Kenwood had still not come out with multichanger support. There was more than one person who got rid of their Entre unit over that period of time, but some have now repurchased them.

Since the multichanger support has been available, I think you'll find that any detractors from the Sovereign units are now scarce.

The new technical issue thread, on which I also regularly participate, has nothing to do with complaints about Entre and Kenwood. It has to do with expanded abilities that some software savvy people have come up with to permit FTP ability into the Entre. Thus, where we were first largely prevented from downloading DVD-Audio cover art, we can now easily copy it and transer it to Entre. We are now experimenting with revising the disc information that is sometimes not available on OpenGlobe, to permit a comprehensive body of information to be captured on the Entre.

I have had first hand experience with all these changers, and if someone reads through the threads on AVS, particularly since August of this year, you will see how users are not only pleased with Entre and Sovereign changers, but generally rave about them.

The only really competitive alternative to Entre is the Escient, which doesn't do nearly as much, and is much more expensive to boot.

Here's a thread I did, which posted screen shots of the Entre in action. [Link: avsforum.com]

I'm running 2 Sony CX 985's. Anyone know where I can find the discrete of off codes for the second player?

I also own a Kenwood 5900 and have had the changer in for service 3 times in 2 years. One time they gave me a replacement. Picture is great, but both players had reliability problems.
