I am a newbie to ProntoEdit so I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question (wasn't able to find an answer in this forum or in FAQ). I have been able to figure out how to download and edit custom .ccf's in ProntoEdit4 but I am having trouble customizing the actual buttons for my devices. Specifically, I am trying to set up a favorites Panel of channels for my new Philips DirecTV/TiVo unit (DSR700r). When I select an icon and click Properties, I believe you select Set IR. The problem is that when I choose a Device from the drop down and then the Brand, there are sometimes 10 or 12 choices of Code Set for that brand. For example, I don't see TiVo or SAT as a Device in the drop down so I chose DBS. I then select Philips and find there are 12 choices under Code Set (i.e. Philips 1, Philips 2, etc.) Other than by process of elimination, how can I figure out which code set will work with my system? The same goes for my Sony TV, Nak Tuner, etc. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Most of us prefer to just learn the codes (just as fast), you can also try the file area (someone might have created a panel or two for the exact same device.

Exactly.

The way to figure out which code set works for your product is to set several codes, including volume, tune up, tune down, power toggle and power discretes (iv available) and try them out. You have to try several codes to be sure you have the right set -- many but not all may work. For instance, in a Samsung satellite remote, I just did their equivalent of setting code on AUX for a Yamaha amp, and all their sets will not switch power, just volume (or nothing).

Set IR is for selecting the IR code from the memory of the Pronto. If you learn the code from a working factory remote, and check it right then, you will KNOW that you have a working code right away.

I would use the SET IR function if I did not have the remote, especially as there are multiple code sets.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
