I have downloaded IR codes for the Denon AVR-3803 and DVD-2900 from the Denon website... Anyone know how to convert their code format into Pronto hex..? They list 13 binary fields (C1-C13)... C1-C5 is labelled 'Address data of system', C6-C11 'Data' and C12-C13 'Data expansion'...

C1 - C5 is the device code
C6-C13 is the function code

For example- "Enter" in the Denon docs:

C1-C5- 0100 so convert to decimal- 0010 = 2
C6-C13- 00000111 so convert to decimal- 11100000 = 224

So device 2, function 224. Using one of the utilities(makehex, etc) you can then make the pronto hex code for the Denon 15 bit protocol. A complete set of Denon 5803 codes and excel spreadsheet can be found at [Link: remotecentral.com] Not all Denon receivers have all these commands but the subsets are the same.

Thanks for the reply... Maths never was my strong point..! I've had a look at all your hard work... I assume that in IR tool the first three fields, '0', '1', and 'carrier' are the same for all Denon/Sharp..? I also assume that 'device' refers the generic device e.g. 2 = reciever, 8 = DVD etc..? 'Command' being the specific action within that device..?

Okay, if I'm right so far, how do I work out the 'lead out' and 'pad' values..? I looked at your DVD player (3800, I've got the 2900) and these fields are different through IR tool...

Sorry to be a pain, but I would like to do the same for the 2900...

Many thanks...

dwg... I've now had a proper look at your .xls, and the device codes change so I'm off base there..? Also the Denon download says 'Data construction 15bits C14 0 C15 0= Not inverted 1= Inverted'... What's that about..?

Perhaps I've bitten off more than I can chew.!?

I'm not completely sure of bit 14 and 15 but the Denon code sends the device code and the function/command code followed by a short break and then the device code again and the function/command code inverted. In the first part bits 14 and 15 are 0's and in the second they are 1's so they indicate the status (normal or inverted) of the function/command preceding. The 2900 has the same code set as the 3800 except that the 2900 has the additional disk commands.

Disk 1- Device 8, Function 164
Disk 2- Device 8, Function 165
Disk 3- Device 8, Function 166
Disk 4- Device 8, Function 168
Disk 5- Device 8, Function 169
Disk Skip- Device 8, Function 171

I can make these codes if you need them.

What did you use to generate those? They are each missing a blank between the two halves (where it has "001e000a"). Unless you insert that blank ("001e 000a"), I dont't think PE will understand it.

You are absolutely correct- that will teach me once again to check the work- I used prontutil-m for those.

For general Denon to pronto conversion, I have a CCF on http://www.seahunt4pl.co.uk/ or http://www.seahunt.co.uk/ I'm never sure which.

It has a CCF created from a denon datasheet.

Rgds,
Bruce.

dwg... Thanks so much... All I need from you now is an idiots guide to converting the Denon codes into Pronto hex, and I won't need to keep bothering you :-)

The Denon code docs" decoded" (see earlier in string)simply give you the device number and the function number for a particular function on a particular device. Then it is necessary to use a program such as Make Hex or ProntoUtil in the PC world or IRUtilities in the Mac world to actually generate the pronto hex codes for the device and function for that manufacturer.
