I'm a late-stage newbie, am ready to try creating some of my own graphics, and seek advice as to what program to use.

I am very computer literate, but seldom deal with graphics creation. I realize that a program like Illustrator would do everything I need (and much more), but I'm not much interested in investing the money or time to acquire or learn such a battleship.

Any suggestions as to a program well suited to creating .bmp's for Pronto use that is decent, less expensive, and relatively intuitive?

Thanks in advance for any advice you lend. (Please forgive is this is a repeat question. I didn't find this particular topic in a 20 minute scan through this forum.)

Or you could try Paint Shop Pro at Jasc.com. If you decide to buy you can usually find it for less than $70 at Sam's or online. Graphics software usually has a steep learning curve. The real problem is that even after you become "expert" in the software, the main ingredient is artistic. Many times this is the antithesis for someone who is "tech savy". It is for me.

My favorit is Picture Publisher 10 for editing bitmaps. Easy to use, learning and executing macros. Paint Shop Pro has the best circle function, a very good red eye remover. Ulead Photo Impact has nice textures and effects, and a very good clone tool.

You see, there is no best. Every user has a favorit, every software has strength is some functions.

So, take a look at eBay and you'll find PP 10 as an OEM version for some $ and give it a try ...

I'm a late-stage newbie,

this is a serious condition, indeed. i suggest you seek counseling immediately!

am ready to try creating
some of my own graphics,

this is a sure fire sign that you are indeed a "late stage newbie",

and seek advice as to
what program to use.

this is somewhat of a good sign. you are seeking help, just not the correct type of help. you need professional psychiatric counseling.

I am very computer literate,

this is where so many go wrong, thinking this gives them some sort of super powers.........wrong answer.

but seldom deal with
graphics creation.

get a clue, here. seek professional help, immediately.

and relatively intuitive?

running windows? you ought to know by now that you can just throw intuition right out that window.

Thanks in advance for any advice you lend.

(please remember, no free lunches).

this, all by itself, shows you may not be up to this. if you haven't mastered the intricasies of the rc search, you will undoubtedly be found floundering on the beaches of any image editior.

SEEK PROFESSIONAL PSYCHIATRIC COUNSELING IMMEDIATELY

Thanks, all. I will review the programs you mentioned (and I'll check my insurance coverage for psychiatric care).

Thanks again.
