Hi,

I am going to get the TS1000 but is 1MB enough to hold all my configuration? I just need to control 6 AV devcies, bitmap icons, 10 Macros etc. If i get TSU2000, it will hold 2MB but do i really need it? It costs almost double and that is the only main difference.

Thanks for any advice!

I don't see why it wouldn't be enough. I had a TSU2000 that had 6 devices and lots of macros for my DVD jukebox. I now have a TSU-6000 and a TS-1000 and the TS-1000 does everything minus the movies. I actually like the look of it better than the 2000 I had.

a goodly portion of the 2000's extra 1meg is taken up by the udb, which isn't in the 1000.

the available memory in the ts1000 is about 380k and all your devices will need to be learned. the tsu2000 has around 1MB free AND most of your IR codes will come from the udb (data base) and not take up memory. quite ironic and unfortunate that the one with limited memory also requires all IR codes to be learned. :-(

i've ordered a ts1000 (hasn't come yet) and i am hoping that will be enough. i have about 9 or 10 devices. if not i will end up returning it or selling it on ebay and buying a tsu2000. but i don't see a downside to trying the ts1000 first since it is substantially cheaper than the tsu2000.

Actually, the UDB does take up A LOT of memory. If you do the math from your figures, that means the UDB takes up approx 380k [2meg - 620k (firmware) - 380k (UDB) = 1meg (available)] of what COULD BE user memory. More than you're likely to need for learning codes.

On the positive side, my old TS1000 had 7 pieces of gear, room for 150+ channel icons, calandar, equipment list, and a few other odds and ends and I still had a little bit left over.

the 1000 should be fine for almost any application except CD or DVD cover art. I have done many with extensive channel icons and macros and have rarely even come close to max memory. Just be careful when using large bitmaps. The setup screen will show you capacity used.

Of all the pronto TSU1000s i've programmed (and that's quite a few) I've never run out of memory...even when the client wants his CD jukebox's and DSS TV logos on it as well.

I think it is. I have 19 panels for 4 devices plus light and some help pages. All with borders, most 'animated' icons, will say while executing another picture is displayed. All codes are learned, for the DVD and the receiver they are optimized (thanks Ron). On the 3rd setup page the pronto tells me 70% free memory. So that will be enough for a normal portion of home equipment.
