Hi,

Well, I just bought the Sony RM-AV3000 but i think i may return it to get TU-1000 and hope you guys will give me some suggestion. There are 2 major reasons why i want to return AV3000 and get TU-1000 intead.

1.) Macro: I setup Macro to turn on all my Audio/Video devices, but most of the remote contorls has only one ON/Off button. If someone turn on one of the device before i use the "Macro for turn all devices on". It will turn that device off instead of turn on.
I heard TU-1000 can use descrete to idenitfy on and off fucntion even in same button. If it is possible i can find descrete code for my AKAI Plasma TV, JVC VCR 2901U, Panasonic DVD Player RP62, RCA STB receiver?
(This is the major reason why i want to get TU-1000 instead) Hope someone can confirm that .

2.) Label button: I can only create 4 labels at the bottom of each screen (Total 12 labels per component) There are about 20 more semi-label on the screen but it cannot be rename it. Those semi-lable button can switch between their pre-define label. But for me it is not good becasue most of their description does not suit my needs.
I think TU-1000 can create my own button and lable in anywhere from the screen and learn it.

Thanks for any comments.

rleung,

Discrete code is not inherent to remote control. It all depends if your device is originaly equiped with this capability. Discrete codes can be learned to your Sony RM-AV3000.
The main differences between your Sony and the Pronto is customization. With the Pronto, you can create your own buttons and have macro on all of them. The "Files" section of this site will also give you a lot of ideas on design as well as discrete code for equipement peoples have upload their ccf.

There is no easy answer, it all depends on time and effort you will be willing to spend on customization.

Martin :-)

I had an AV-3000, it was the first programmable remote I ever owned. Liked it at first but got very frustrated with the lack of flexibility and the inability to customize so bought a Pronto 2000. Much happier.

But as Martin says, if there is a discrete code for a device then it can be learned to the AV-3000. If there is no discrete code built into the device it does not matter which remote you use, the same problem will exist.

1) like Martin said, discrete codes are part of the equipment, they are either there or not, but since the Pronto is PC programmable, sharing those codes is easy. Also since the Pronto is much more customizable, there are work arounds that are not possible on the 3000 (confirmation pages, guides, putting the equipment in a known state)

2)any button can go from one pixel to the full editable area of the screen. You have several font sizes and you can use any letter and a few symbols you want. Also the Pronto can upload any icon you want as a button, so you could make the text part of the icon, and so anything you can do on the PC.

Thanks for all your great comments...

I think Descrete code from Pronto is much easier to find than AV3000. Correct me if i am wrong, They are using different descrete code. Like AV3000 the only way to feed descrete code is get another OFA/RS remote (it is 3 digit) and transmitt to AV3000. But i guess Pronto is much easier becasue the unit itself has serial cable connect to PC and can download any through this connection.

discrete codes either exist or don't, and that depends on the device you are trying to control (i.e. a 5 year old Toshiba TV will not have discretes, so you cannot have them on a Pronto or a Sony universal remote). But like you said, since the Pronto is PC programmable, we can upload/download them easily from the PC to the remote, and we can share them. Something that you cannot do with a Sony remote.
