I searched around and found a few mentions of Panasonice discrete component input. I even found a few ccf's that I tried out, but they set my TV to Video 4, not the component input. Has any one overcome this problem or have any insight to offer?

Did you check out the file section of this website. Which has a section for disreect codes.
If you are still having problems getting to component input. Here's a question for you. If you were to use the button that is on the oem remote that would toggel through all the inputs. Where would the compenent input come into play? Will it come into play right after input 4? If so, then just make a button that has
input 4
delay, if needed
toggel, which will bring it to component input.
