I've had my Pronto for a couple of years now and all of a sudden when I put it on the charging ststion it will light the charging light but after a half hour or so the light will go out and the pronto won't charge. I keep putting it back on but it goes off again. Any help will be great. Thanks.

Time for a new battery, IMHO.

You guys don't say which model you have, the Pro has a different pack. Assuming you have a 1000/2000, you can order the pack from Philips. It is very expensive at around $45. You'd probably be better off getting a new charger/battery off E-Bay.

If you're a little more adventurous, you can build your own by replacing the cells. Read this: [Link: remotecentral.com]. Specifically the post by Paloma.

Thanks Jim. I have the TS1000.... pretty long in the tooth.

How many folks have done the internal replacement job? Wonder how delicate it is to get done right?

Sounds like a battery. Just be careful when installing the new pack. The two small cantacts (the gold ones) get bent easily and will no longer make contact with the battery pack. Result: pronto works, but won't charge. I had this problem with mine after I bought a recharge kit for my TS-1000 that I used AA batteries in for the first year or so. I thought the charger was bad at first, but I kept playing with it until I found the problem.

I think the charger docking station was a huge waste of money. Back in the day, it was generally considered that they had a very high failure rate.

I put mine on the shelf, and have used rechargable alkalines (Renewal) ever since. They go months before needing a charge. I think they are about $5 for 4 batteries at Wal Mart.

I too was getting short battery life after recharging. After charging I would look at the battery indicator and it would be low. I discovered that reseating the battery pack after charging fixes the problem. Give it a try.
