Jim,

Read a bit closer... The price point I'm arguing about with Anthony is for the Pronto 3000NG. Not the MX3000.

As far as consumer friendliness or lack thereof, the "WARNING!!!!" sounds like they may be putting a nail in their own coffin before even getting out of bed.

Right you are Lyndel, guess there's a few too many 3000's floating around out there. What is there, 3 of them now?

I was commenting primarily on the "new Sheriff in town", then got my 3000 models confused when you talked about price points.

this will be HTM's first forray into the touchscreen market, will their inexperience be a factor?

no they had the 1000

Lyndel, the TSU-500 (Pronto Neo) is still out there, the 3000 is already advertised at 270$ and the 2000 was advertised at under 250$, compare it to the 650$ of a 6000 or over 1000$ for the Marantz and there is a reason people buy the B&W models. The benefit of a customizable screen is big, and the reason I went with Prontos, color is cool, color is fun, color is easier to read.... but when it is all said and done, it does not add a lot of true remote functionality.

Anthony,

Agreed.

I was suggesting that there are too many problems with the software provided today. Not enough testing as well as the engineers not being users of the software. The best experience an engineer can have with regard to the quality of the software produced is to be a user. Eat their own dog food, per se.

Philips/Marantz need to take note of the competitors and realize that there are reported problems they need to address as well as do better testing to ensure that they deliver quality user-friendly software.

I admit that I think like an engineer and picked up PE/TSS/RCEdit very quicly. However, I also think like a user who needs function X to prevent having to do a larger number of steps in a workaround to accomplish the same end results.

IMHO, if the engineers were users who did not base the implmentation of functionality on the # of lines of code required, but, rather, on the enhancement to the user-experience, these software packages would be 10 times better.

Just my thoughts. I'll shut up now.
