Hoping that one of you in the forum can answer this one.

Is there a way to store a variable on the marantz/pronto that can be changed by pressing a button. eg. If I create a POWER ON button, I want to set a variable to "ON". The if I press a POWER OFF button, I want to read the variable. If the variable is set to "ON", I can send the power code. If the variable is set to "OFF", then I can just ignore (because the device is still off).

Any thoughts?

Conditional Programming isn't supported on the Prontos.

Is supposed to be, sometime in the future, for the 3000s.

Actually your idea of reading a set variable is no different than jumping through a sequence of panel so that your Pronto is in sinc with your entire AV system.

Example you press a button which turns on a component and jumps to a panel which now only contains an OFF button for that component - Pretty simple.

If you consider the Pronto as a task controller not a component controller you see the idea. Example you want to watch a DVD - the "entry" panel sets up all the equipment to watch a DVD and jumps to the "watch a DVD task" panel - this group of panels contains all the controls necessary to control the DVD player, adjust the AV Amp and TV. This group of panels also gives the user the ability to "End all viewing", "switch to TV" or "switch to VCR" - again the Pronto stays in sinc with all your components.

Now the only draw back is - what if a sequence of commands gets interupted. Well thats exactly the same problem you can have with storing a variable - you store a variable that the TV is ON but somehow the TV never got the signal. Another simple solution - help button with a list of questions based on the task. Example on DVD panel - questions: "Image no sound", "Sound no Image", "No Image or Sound".

no variables, but

1) that is one of the reasons we use discrete codes. (better then variables if they exist)

2) you could create a branching structure, that is used as variables (multiple copies of the same panels, but the effects are different depending on what was pressed earlier)

Rob - it's not a bad idea if there is no discrete for, say a TV. It's like a marker within the pronto that says "If the TV power button has been pressed once, the TV is on, so don't turn it off if your macro calls for the TV to come on again, only turn it off when you come across the "off" button.

The "if" function would be nice in future models!
