Unit seems to be draining the battery when it is not even on! Battery power will only last for about an hour or two and then is completly depleated. Rechargeable battery seems to charge fine, but once charged, loses power almost immediately. Charger will charge battery (light on), stop (light off), and then the remote is dead within an hour.

I've tried regular 'AA's and the same thing happens, so I believe it's not the batteries.

I'd just like to have the use of this remote for more than half an hour...

Dave,

First of all, what are the charging indications?? When the battery is drained, does the charger light stay on for an hour or more, or go off in about 5 to 10 min?

What do you have the LCD, Backlight, and Button light settings at in setup? Long settings can dramatically reduce life. For reference, I have mine set to 10 sec, 10 sec, and 5 sec respectively.

Thanks for the reply.

In as far as settings, mine are at 20,20,20 with low light sensor to minimum.

Charging indications are solid light for 2 to 3 hours plus, then flasing for a 20 to 30 minutes plus, then solid again, then finally off.

Still curious as to charger, because same thing happens when I put in 4 new 'AA's.

Any further help would be appreciated.

Is this a new unit or a refurb? Either way, I'd consider sending it back and requesting a new one.

FYI, frequent up/downloading drains the batteries tremendously. In your case, the thing is just setting idle so I suspect you may have a bad unit.

Thanks Lyndel,

Yeah, it's a used unit. You may have confirmed my worst fears as I can't return it. (At least not to my knowledge.) Tough lesson to learn...

I was hoping one of you might give me some last-ditch hope...

I have not uploaded or downloaded anything in the past while. Defective unit? probably...

Has it always done this, or did it just start?

Has it been dropped?

Has anything ever been spilled on it? Even one drop that gets inside could cause a short circuit, even after it's dried.

If there's no chance of rfund/return, I'd open it up and see if there are any obvious shorts. Check all the connectors for good seating and look for anything that's NOT supposed to be inside the case.

Done this since I've had it (2 weeks). To my knowledge, never mishandled.

Pardon my ignorance, but what would an 'obvious' short look like.

I'll give it a shot as I'll try anythinhg at this point to justify my purchase.

Any other ideas would be welcomed.

Here's a thought.

Put AA in the remote. But when you put the last one in, watch for any sparks. Best do this in a dim lite area. If there are any sparks. Then there is a short, if not then there has to be some thing else wrong with it.

And are you sure that the batteries are being drained? Did you check the voltage out with a battery tester? AA should read at 1.5 each. While the pack will read at 4.8. I believe.

Good thoughs Rob, thanks.

I will try your suggestions as well.

Is my situation really wonky, or has it been heard of before?

Thanks for all your help.

Okay.

Tried all suggestions last night to no avail. If anyone can think of anything else, please let me know.

All was fully charged and working fine last night. I went to bed at midnight, and by this morning at 7:30, no battery power and the unit does not function.

I'm still stumped! Any other ideas?

Are "dead" AA's that come out of it really dead? Is the unit perhaps waking itself up in the night and staying on (has been known to happen now and again)? With the "dead" batteries, hitting the RESET button does nothing?

Dead 'AA's are really dead. Hitting 'reset' does nothing. I've spoken with the vendor and he has agreed to replace it. Starange problem indeed, but happy an honest vendor is coming through.

Thank you for all your help guys!
