Sometimes, I touch a button on my RC5200 (or recently, when I tried to select another device from the list) - and it just reboots.

It will go through the standard reboot splash screen and then go back to normal without any problems.

The unit is always charged, and I haven't noticed any battery related problems.

Any ideas?

You might try reflashing the firmware if it's been awhile. Sounds dumb, but sometimes it goes a little "stale". Check the plug to the battery as well, make sure it's tightly seated.

Just a little "me too" post. One thing I've noted--it seems to happen more frequently after I've been in MouseMode.

Best,

I'm a bit afraid to try the reflashing bit (so far so good, never had to pull an "undead" on my marantz so far).

Brad,

How do you get to mouse mode. I keep reading about this, but have no idea how it works, what it does or how to get into it...

Reflashing the firmware and undead are kinda different, at least as far as Tonto defines it. Undead needs to be done after a failed or canceled ccf download, when the remote is caught in a continuous reboot loop. Whether you use Tonto or hyperterminal, the procedure works well. Reflashing the firmware is really no more dangerous than downloading a ccf. Provided of course you're using firmware designed for your model remote.

Yah, what Anthony said...

Of course, it won't do you much good except as a screen-cleaning mode unless you own a Phillips IR receiver to attach to your computer (Windows only).

My occasional reboot problem has persisted through a couple of firmware reflashes. It's pretty infrequent--so I'm not worrying about it too much...

Best,
Brad

I fixed my reboot problem!

What I found is that the case of my RC5000i weakened over time (probably from popping the battery in and out). I found that when I pushed on the screen or buttons with any force stronger than a light tap, it caused one of the terminals that connect to the battery to brush up against a diode on the circuit board underneath. I opened the unit and put some electrical tape over the components lying beneath the battery terminal and viola no more reboots!

$3.79 for the #T6 Torx wrench and the almost unusable box is fixed!

I had same problem on my 5200. Simple cure, The battery connector (bit fiddly) was'nt making good connection. I just reconnected the battery (properly)and rebooting completely dissappeared
