I bought a refurbished DS1000 off eBay and it arrived yesterday. When I opened the box I found a dock, adapter, manual, and warranty card. Can anyone tell me what's missing? Yup, a battery. I've called the seller (www.pcseller.com) and he said this is the second time it's happened. I called Philips 'Customer Care' (yeah, right). They asked what I paid, then told me I didn't pay enough to get a battery and refurbished units don't come with one. That seems a tad strange. I've bought plenty of refurbished electronics over the years and they've always been complete, generally lacking on the fancy packaging. My guess is I got someone who didn't know the answer and had a goal of getting me off the phone ASAP.

Has anyone else bought a refurbished DS1000? Did you get a battery? Seems like it is kind of useless to sell a refurbished charging station without the battery.

what did pcseller say?

the site sells new & refurbs........the new specifically states it comes with a battery. the refurb does not.

ask him what he did about the first time it happened. even though it's a "factory refurb", it seems your first line of recourse should be with the seller.

what did the auction page state?

addendum:

current auction by pcseller, doesn't say anything about a battery.

current auction by another seller, specifically states that battery is included and that he is an authorized reseller. (and a penny cheaper buy-it-now, too).

still think you ought to hit on pcseller.

I have addressed it with the seller. He indicated he would get me a battery.

I wasn't really looking for advice on what I should do about it. My question was whether anyone else had had this experience with a refurbished DS1000.

Mostly I'm just annoyed with shoddy customer service by Philips (and many other companies these days, Philips was just the straw that broke the camel's back).

I simply wanted an honest answer as to what their policy was on refurbished items and I feel I got the easiest answer the person thought they could give to get me off the phone.

Why would Philips offer incomplete refurbished products for sale? It's not been my experience with other companies that refurbished products contain whatever the factory decides to put in the box.

I will definitely think twice about buying Philips' products in the future based on the customer non-service I've received from them.

I didn't know they are selling refurbished docking stations. I wouldn't have thought it would be worth doing.

(third try)

Craig: I don't think it is Philip's fault.
As for why? Maybe for someone who's charger broke.

Considering that the docking station is absolutely useless without the battery, I can't see why Philips would purposely sell it without one. The battery may not be brand new, but there should still be one.

Just for reference, one of the sponsors of this site is currently selling brand new DS-1000's, with battery, for $36.95.

Bought a refurb ds-1000 on e-bay for $39 from Moonbuzz and it arrived with a battery. I noticed the two pieces of the unit (the plastic top and the metal base) have a tiny bit of "play" (1-2mm) between them allowing the top plastic cover to move a little bit on top of the metal base.

IS this normal? I didn't like it so I stuck a little piece of paper in between them to stop this movement, but I wondered if this is normal. It looks like that's just how they are supposed to be...
