I have a pair of used TSU2000s for sale at $175 each. Have a look on ebay, prices there seem to be stable.
But if you are looking to change devices in the hope that you'll find one that stands up to abuse, then you'll be dissapointed. Prontos do not like to be dropped.

I wouldn't call droping off a couch 3' on to the carpet abuse. These should be able to take a little drop, That should be normal use. Infact the one when I shook it lightly would reboot. When I found this issue I tred the other one and it would do the same the third one was good no reboot. I have 4 protos and was just wondering how common this was or if I was just getting crap back from phillips because they are just circulating these around.

would you drop your PDA or laptop 3 feet onto a carpeted surface and expect it to be happy?
what we are trying to tell you is that NO the pronto is NOT designed to take ANY kind of a fall. some reboot when you look at them the wrong way.
is it an issue? yes. we just do our best to avoid such situations and attempt to encourage good contact in the battery compartment.
if it frustrates you so, go back to the 7 remotes you used to have on the coffee table.

Drop almost any thing that uses batteries and there is a chance it will happen. when the Pronto touches the floor (or when shaken) the mass of the batteries (or pack) can push a bit more then usual on the springs and looses contact on the opposite side. When the contact is reestablished the Pronto boots up. If you are using the rechargeable pack, you could try soldering little wires to make sure contact is not broken
