Hey guys. I am definitely getting one of those remotes, I have read all the reviews and what not, but I wanted to get your opinions.

Is the Pronto worth $150 more than the Sony in your opinion?
I have a Toshiba 65" TV, Pioneer Reciever, Panasonic DVD, Charter Cable Box.. thats about it.. nothing too uncommon I wouldn't think.
I like the charger for the Pronto, but reading that the Sony lasts on avg 6 months.
What are your thoughts?
Any more info I need to provide?

Yes it is, the software programming capability alone is worth it. It gives you unlimited macros - on any soft button. The only thing I like about the Sony (over a TSU 2000) is that the blue backlight makes it much easier to read.

The TV may not have discrete codes (depending on model year). Most DVD players and Cable Boxes lack them as well. There are some work arounds however. The charger is nice, but it doesn't save you any money over batteries. It's just a convenience factor.

Obviously, this IS the Pronto forum and just MHO.

If you read Daniel's reviews, then you know exactly what each remote can do, so if the difference of being able to make any button look and act the way you want (and the rest of the differences between them) are worth 150$ for you, then yes it is.

P.S. You get to Daniel's review by clicking review on the top of the screen

P.P.S for me it is

as two the power questions, I like the charger, and think it is worth getting. I have always used the charger, but according to the manual, the Pronto should also get 6 months.

Basically, the comments above sum it up - the Sony is a terrific remote, but the Pronto is far more flexible and customizable *provided* that you are prepared to put the time into it. The Pronto is customized via "CCF" files which provide a complete configuration to the remote. These files are created using the ProntoEdit software on your PC, which means you have incredible control -but it does take time to learn and to set up.

Take a look at the Pronto Files section on this site for samples of what you can do with the Pronto. A lot of this stuff amounts to visual flash - looks nice but doesn't add real functionality - but with a Pronto, you can do things like having channel logos on the remote which when pressed, change to that channel.

The Sony lacks the PC interface, but its simplicity makes it easier to set up. If you want something you can set up in an hour tops - it might be a better choice.

Also, you might want to take a look at the News items for September about the upcoming Pronto 3000 model - due out in January or thereabouts.

also except for a few buttons, the Sony's LCD's buttons have predetermined labels, so you cannot call any button whatever you want.

Here's a radical idea.
You could buy TWO RM-AV3000's and still have $40 left over from the price of the Pronto.
You could use one of the remotes for a month or two until you have it customized to your liking and then put the two remotes head-to-head and transfer the settings.
You can then keep the second remote as a backup :-)
