Don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but recently I've gotten e-mail with a ccf attached. I use Outlook Express and the options to save or open the ccf attachment were unavailable. I even sent myself a ccf from another computer with the same results.

Apparently, SP1 (Service Pack 1) to Outlook Express has some virus protection routines in it which use some "look up tables" to disable this opening or saving. At least for my computer, ccfs were tagged as potentially "unsafe". To modify or disable this feature, look here: [Link: support.microsoft.com].

By the way, SP1 to Outlook Express is a part of Windows XP SP1.

Even without SP1 Outlook wouldn't let me open anything without some changes to default settings.

Ok so I am not the only one then. I've noticed it a month or so ago. When I had someone from here email me their ccf. So that I could help them.

I am on win 98

Before this all happened, I had ie and outlook 6.0 Then I upgraded to 6.0036 or whatever it is. When I did that, my IE became slower, outlook no change that was noticed at the time. So I was able to downgrad my IE, but not my Outlook. And now I am upset because I can not receive ccf, or any other sort of attachment. Some do come threw, but most of them don't.

Any one know where I can get OutLook 6.0? not the 6.00036 or whatever?

Rob,

I'm running Win 98 as well. Did you read my link? There are several ways mentioned to work around the problem. The easiest one is to go to Outlook Express tools/options/security tab and uncheck one of the virus protection boxes.

Oh my. I feel so freaken stupid. I was so upset that I couldn't find anything. I check, unchecked everything that I thought would fix the problem. And I could swear that I did that one before. But I guess not. Because I just did, and it works.

Now only thing that I have to fix is my remote starter/alarm. The remote only works one way, which controls the car. But it won't receive anything from the car. Maybe it's all these 900Mhz phones around here. Only alarm in the world that uses 900mHz. It's by compustar.org If anyone is interested.

Ok now I do have a question about outlook.

html, can it be done? Both with sending and receiving?

tool, opitions, sending tab. I have the html sending format box checked. Settings well that part is where I am not understanding.

Under Read tab. I have the Read all message in plan text, box unchecked.

Thanks, even though this is off topic some what.

FWIW:

I never have used Outlook for anything more than an archive of emails I get on my various Yahoo & HotMail accounts.

Those that I want to keep, I forward to my ISP provided email account, then sync that account to Outlook occasionally. I for sure don't keep any kind of address book in Outlook.

My main account is at yahoo, had it for years, and it is set up (via yahoo software) to be my default email. I don't keep many addresses there either. I keep my addresses on a Multiple ClipBoard program on both my PC and LapTop. I also subscribe to a Read/Notify service, that routes my outgoing emails through their server where it is then watched. When it is opened I get a notification of who/when/where it was opened. It is done either quietly (receiver does not know I have been notified) or you can attach a banner explaining that "I know you opened this, so you better reply PDQ!" - That comes in handy when dealing with some companies that may want to say "Oh, we're sorry . . . we didn't get your email!".

I have another little program that polls all of my email accounts with the click of a button, at least once a month, that keeps them all active. The other accounts are the ones I use when "signing up" for things . . . and it is amazing how FAST they fill up with spam!!!!

Both yahoo and HotMail support HTML. yahoo, at least, offers you the option of whether or not to scan for virii. And since it's possible to send a virus through a HTML eMail just by opening it . . . I use that little polling program to open questionable emails in first, since it only opens them in text.

I never open anything I didn't ask for . . . straight to the trash can . . . unless I recognize the sender's name or address from Remote Central (for instance). If I don't recognize something either name, address, or the subject "sounds" like it may be from here . . . straight to the trash can . . . or at the minimum, I'll open it as text, first.

Anyways . . . there's my .02!!
