I'd have to think it depends on the quality of the samples the programmer provides.

I've seen some people offer to program an entire custom setup in two or three hours. I've been wrong before, but I have grave doubts that anything impressive can be done that quickly.

On the other hand, I've seen many estimates that were higher than the cost of the remote. And while this sounds rediculous to some people, I look at it this way: How much does a DVD player cost, verses how much does a library of DVDs cost? The device itself is just a platform. It can do wonderful things, or it can do shoddy things. And you get what you pay for.

That said, lots of people have done a lot of the pre-work for you, such that every CCF doesn't have to start from scratch. I can modify EasyTheater for a basic installation in just a few hours... but if someone asked me to create a whole new interface customized just for them but at the same level of design as EasyTheater, it would take months.

So anyway, I think what I'm trying to say is, "there's not a straight answer to your question." But, I'll be up front and tell you my own rates:

CCF Programming or Graphic Design: $70 an hour
Design a two-state custom icon: $25 flat-rate
Design Five (5) custom icons as above: $100 flat-rate
Modify an icon's color or text: $10 flat-rate

I'll be the first to point out that I've seen lots of people beat my rates, and I've even referred others to some of those people. Since I still have a day job, my rate is set to attract only very-interested clients.

Thanks,
Dale
