I have a Philips Pronto (TS1000), and am in the market for a new DVD player, and really want an uber-jukebox, however many of them get terrible reviews. The one that looks good is the Sony DVP-CX875P, but the guy at Crutchfield told me the remote is RF and not IR (which he then concluded the DVD player was compatible with my Pronto! Obviously it would not be if it's RF).

Can anyone tell me if the DVP-CX875P uses IR and is it compatible with the pronto?

Yes, I have seen that, but it does not make it clear that the DVP_CX875P RECEIVES IR as the way to control it, which is my question, nor does it say if it works with the Pronto (why would it?)

Well the way that I look at it. If the manafactor does say if it uses RF or not. Then I can saftly assume that it uses IR. There for most likely it can be used with the Pronto.

But what I would do, is go to a different store. Bring the remote with you. And look at the remote that comes with the player. And try to learn a button, any button. If the pronto says OK. Test that button, see if it does work on the player.

I just saw this model in the crutchfield site and it has a IR eye with a R (remote). I think this is IR and it is compatible with the Pronto...

You can see it here:

[Link: crutchfield.com]

I mean... why does it have an eye for the remote if it is RF?

In fact about the remote, it says:

Remote Control

Multibrand Remote: The supplied remote is pre-programmed to operate this unit and a number of functions on certain brands of A/V receivers and televisions.

Multibrand means it can control other devices, I think. IR.

Willy.

the CX875P is not supposed to come out until end of this month, where did you get yours from? (I want one too!)

It's a progressive scan version of the current model, CX870.

The Pronto works just fine with the DVP-CX875P. I am using the 875p along with the 860 and they have the same IR codes out of the box. The 875 does have 3 settings for different IR codes so the player works well with other Sony DVD players.

I highly recommend using SuperNudelist with the player!!!!

I have the codes for the 3rd set of IR codes for the 875. Let me know if you need it. If anyone has the codes for the 2nd set plesae let me know.
