Does anyone know, first of all, if the Xbox will take IR codes for Power On/Off? Also, doe anyone know if the JVC JX-S111 (the cheap video switcher) will take IR codes at all? I know the s555 will, but I don't want to fork out $500. thanks

The codes for the 555 would work.
I just don't think the JVC JX-S111 has a IR receiver... You have to manually change inputs...

You could try the Sony SB-V55A Automatic Composite and S-Video Switcherwith no remote control, but automatic switcher or the Sima SVS-4D, with automatic switcher and a remote control.

Willy.

The XBOX does not support On/Off (toggle OR discrete) via remote. It also doesn't support eject.

Two major shortcomings, in my opinion -- at least, with respect to using the DVD and audio capabilities of the XBOX.

Thanks to both of you for your replies...confirmed what I have found so far. I don't understand the on/off issue. I programed my remote for the RCA DVD player like it said, but it still ignores the on/off button. Somewhere there has to be a way to do it.

No. XBOX does not support software on/off. There's only a hardware switch...

There are reports, though, that on/off and "reset" are actually "accessible" via the connector on the rear, but then you'd have to do some cable hacking. And would then need either a trigger from a receiver, or some other control signal. Blick!
