I have bought a new laptop which does not have serial ports. It only equipped with 3 USB ports.
I have purchased the Belkin FCU109 serial to USB adapter and installed it on the laptop. It works just fine with any serial devices I connect it to (FaxPal, x10 device, etc...). When I connect pronto to it, and try to download/upload CCF files I get an error, which states that no comp ports are installed on the computer.

In Device manager I see an Adapter with COMP2 assigned to it, but Pronto for some reason does not recognize it. I am running Pronto Edit 4.0.3 under Win XP.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Roman

Pronto tries to use the first COM port it finds that is free. You may have more success on COM1.

Do a search on USB and Belkin and you will find lots of info on how to get this adapter working.

You can also try Tonto, which is easier to connect with.

Finally, the current version of PE is 4.05. You should upgrade.

Thanks Peter,

I have tried to find a way of assigning COM1 to the Belkin F5U109 serial to USB adapter, but was not able to do so. The tech support told me it is impossible to do. So I downloded the Tonto, and when I installed it and ran Locate Remote, it successfully found it on COM2.

But when I tried to download the CCF file into it,

At current 25% total 35% download I get: ‘Download Error’ and then ‘Unexpected response (0)’

If I wake up remote before download at current 19% total 31% download I get “Unable to raise Pronto”.

Any idea what can I do to solve this problem?
Another question: Is there a way to enable the emulator in Tonto? It looks like it is grayed out.

Thanks

Roman

Hello,

First, check in the control panel your com2 port in the peripheral (devices) manager and set it to 115000 bits/s, 8 bit data, parity none, stop bit 1 and flow control none.

In Tonto, I observed I needed to "locate pronto" before i can succeed a download. Then the download works properly. There is no need to "wake" the remote as in ProntoEdit.

For the emulator, Tonto uses the Philips ProntoEdit one. In Tonto menu, choose Files, Preferences, select the Helper tab and browse to select the ProntoEmulator.exe file in one of the ProntoEdit remotes subdirectories.

Did that - only had to change bits/s from 9600 to 115200 (there is no 115000 in the device manager.

Hello,

Even is my MCT serial to USB adapter uses the Belkin 109 driver, you cannot be sure the behaviour is strictly the same.

So, if is not already done, check the last XP driver on the Belkin site.

The settings I use in Tonto in Files, Preferences, comm panel are :
Port: COM2 (my machine has a COM 1 port, if your don't have a COM1 port, force the adaptater to use COM1 in control panel and change to com1 here)
Scan other ports: Unchecked
Attention Delay: 50 ms
Command Delay: 50 ms
Load Delay: 250 ms

If your Pronto remote is properly found by Tonto and you cannot download a CCF to it, I suggest to send Tonto'author the log file of the session. He will probably find where is the problem and see if there is a solution.
