I have created a macro screen with direct access icon buttons for all my favorite TV channels. Each button essentially sends a DSS signal consisting of (1) the first digit of the station, (2) a 0.2 sec delay, (3)the remaining digits of the station, and then (4) the select key to enter it. Works fine on my Hughes executive box, but on my regular box upstairs, it is seeing the "select" button transmission for too long and seems to be interpreting this as pushing the select button twice, leaving me in the "turbo" channel jump menu. There are a couple of possible work-arounds that occur to me (leaving "select" out of the macro and letting the box change the station by virtue of the passage of time; programing a "clear" input at the end of the macro, etc.), but I'm wondering if there is any way to tell the remote to transmit the "select" signal for less time, which would, I think, solve the problem. Thanks.

Sounds like a dirty code.

Try learning it again, or using IRTOOL to clean it up.

I've tried relearning it a few times with no change. I even tried relearning it with my upstairs DSS remote. I don't know how to use IRTOOL, in fact, I've never heard of it. Is it easy? Perhaps I should try finding the IR code for the select function on this site and pasting it in instead of learning it?

I just tried using IRTOOL. I went to TSS, opened the panel with the select button, right clicked and selected properties, double clicked on "[C]Learned" in the action tab, viewed the IR code, copied it into IRTOOL, and hit "Decode Hex". I got a message that it isn't a learned code, and that IR tool only works on learned codes. What am I doing wrong?

Paste the code, then maybe we can help you.

I just found what I believe to be the IR codes for the Hughes DSS box. (it is the "Generic ID1" file located here: [Link: remotecentral.com] ) I looked at the IR code in this file and it is much different than the IR code currently in my RC5200 for this button.

The code currently in my RC5200 for the DSS "select" button is:
9000 006d 0000 0002 000c 00fb 0018 00e7

The code I found in the Hughes DSS file on this site for the "enter" button (I could not find a "select" button in this file) is:
0000 006d 0026 0000 0154 00ab 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0016 0014 0016 0014 0016 0014 0015 0015 0015 0040 0016 0040 0015 0015 0016 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0016 0040 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0016 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0016 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0016 05d2 0154 0055 0016 0e59 0155 0055 0015 00ab

Quite a difference. Perhaps I'll paste this one in when I get home tonight and see if it works. Funny thing is, if the code currently in my RC5200 is bad, why does it work at all?

By the way, I pasted this new code into IRTOOL, and it "works" when I ask it to decode the hex. What would I do next in IRTOOL if I were having problems with this code?

learnt codes (actually codes in raw form) start with 0000, the 9000 means that it is referencing some internal table, that is why IR tool did not work. When you tried learning the code, the Pronto probably recognized it and used the short hand notation
...

If you have a working 0000 code, you don't need IRTOOL.

IRTOOL only works with 0000 learnt codes.
