When I set a device for RF will an IR signal also be emitted? Is there anyway to output RF only? Thanks.

First of all, no way to limit to RF only.

You don't say which software you're using. For PE 4.x, Tonto, and TSS 1.0.14 -- set system properties to RF. This will send either RF or IR. If you're using TSS 2.04 (unlikely) set System Properties to IR -- this will send either RF or IR.

If you reverse the above settings the remote will ONLY transmit IR.

Hey Jim,

You helped me on a problem that I was having earlier with using 2 DVD players of the same brand, but wanted them to control them independently. You mentioned that I should control 1 using RF and the other using IR, using an RF extender. I'm finally going to take the plunge and buy the extender, but I want to make sure I don't run into anymore "issues".

I'm using a combination of PE v.4.0.5 and Tonto v.1.39 I know that I have to independently set one of the devices for RF and the others will remain at the default, IR, but I want to make sure that when accessing the RF device, it's not also sending out an IR signal to the other device. Please advise.

Also, how does the RF extender work with the emitters? I know that the emitters stick to the IR window of the components, but when sending an RF signal out, does IR get transmitted to all emitters, or is there some sort of switching going on inside the extender?

Thanks again for your help.

Maybe a little semantics going on here. There are 2 areas where you can specify IR or RF. With your software, set SYSTEM PROPERTIES (under home) to IR. For the DVD you want to control by RF, set it's DEVICE PROPERTIES to RF (this assumes that all the source IR codes are located in this device). The remote will send each individual code by either IR or RF, not both at the same time. You can however, still have both IR and RF codes mixed in a macro.

The extender receives RF from the remote, converts it to IR and transmits the IR signal. It does this both as an "IR Blaster" and through the dual emmitter leads. What I would do is connect the emmitter leads to the IR window of your RF DVD and then use tape over the top to mask the IR window. This blocks the signal when controlling the other DVD.

There CAN be some issues with setting up your ccf (where the source codes are located). But these can be ironed out and the system works quite well.

Gotta love them Rams huh? Sorry couldn't resist.

Thanks again Jim...Good info...

Doh, low blow though!!! ; ) Being a Raider fan for as long as I have, I kinda had the feeling that it would happen, especially after being stuffed on the opening drive. Oh well, I guess the 72 Dolphins are still happy.

Take it easy and again, thanks. I'm sure I'll be able to figure out the SW side of it.

As a Detroit Lions fan, I can't feel much sympathy for a team that's only lost 1 game. LOL
