Hi there, I found out that the marantz is capable of doing IR/RF. In order to use the RF , you need rx-77 extender. Is that for marantz device only. Can I hook the rx-77 in pc . If so, what kinds of protocols does it use to talk to rc-5200

You do not connect the rx-77 to your PC. It is simply an RF to IR convertor specifically for the marantz remotes.
You learn the IR in the normal way but set the device to RF instead of IR and select a channel.
The relevant RX77 then receives the codes and emits IR.
The receiving half of a powermid setup will do the same but without the channel choice (a lot cheaper too!!!)

The Rx-77 will work only with the Marantz 5200 and 9200, and the Philips TSU6000. The Onkyo Chad also can use an RF extender although I believe it's a different unit. Jim L
