Hey guys,

I'm kind of pissed of with my Marantz RC5000i. Many times if you press a button on the screen many times it reboots itself.
This happens at least a couple times daily.
I tried the Hyperterminal fix. Downloaded the CCF using Xmodem and all that. Still reboots. :-(
I did a search on the forums and someone posted something regarding long IR codes and cleaning them up.
Ok this sounds like the problem I guess but how can I 'clean' an IR code???
The same CCF works fine on my Ipaq running TVRemote and this is the main reason why I'm considering selling the Marantz on Ebay!!!
Of course if I can fix this annoying reboot problem I will keep it.
Any ideas???
I can send my CCF to anyone if you want to play with it!!! Has some neat macros to change the region on my DVD, to simulate discrete codes on the Panasonic AE100 Projector and so on!

Thanks in advance for your help,

C

There was a time when a LOT of Pronto's had this problem. The reason was that Philips released a firmware update that made this problem worse. Don't know if this was also the case with the Marantz's or not. First I'd check my firmware revision on the remote, it should be App v5.1 and Sys v 4.91. If it's not, this could be the source of the problem.

You mention the "hyperterminal fix". From my understanding this is not a fix for your problem. It's intended to repair a "dead" remote or one that's in a continuous reboot.

Common causes for a reboot are the firmware (try reflashing even if it's current) and low battery power (does it still happen after a full recharge).

Bad codes can cause reboots, but this is an uncommon situation. Does the reboot occur with specific button(s) or macros, or does it not seem to make any difference? If it seems to be certain buttons or macros, try replacing/relearning those codes. Hope this helps at least a little.

Jim, the reboot problem on the Pronto's was a HW change, not FW. The new HW caused a timing problem, they later created a new FW to correct the timing bug.

crodrigues : like Jim said sometimes the bug is in the CCF, can you tell us if it is completely random or if it happens at a specific time (i.e. pressing a button, moving to a panel....) also might be a bad contact (power) does it reboot if you are not playing with it. Have you also tried real batteries

If I do not press the buttons many times, usually it does not reboot.
Battery is always charged and I'm running all the latest firmwares. Free memory is 88%. There is no specific key I press to reboot.
The main issue is that it is random. For example after reading your replies I got the remote and tried to make it reboot. Not even a single problem!
But I know tonight in front of my wife it will do it again as always!
What about this 'cleaning the IR code'?

Thanks guys!

Wasn't it ver 1.04 (maybe 1.03) with a TS1000 that caused some reboot problems???? I know mine caught "the bug" after a firmware update and nobody changed the HARDWARE. I pretty sure I remember that a firmware update caused a lot of grief - and Philips fairly quickly came out with an update. Maybe I got it wrong or we're discussing different occurances.
